Amazon pre-order is up. July 21st. 79.99

The BR.com entry missed The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser, but I have added it to the description.

Did you pay by Paypal? They don't usually charge credit/debit cards until release.

I have a feeling HMV might have a competitive price for these but we'll have to wait and see - I will let you all know once it's up on the system. I say that because recent BFI releases have been very fair prices recently - £10.99 for The Epic Of Everest (£17.99 for the double-set with The Great White Silence), £10.99 for upcoming Classe Tous Risques, £9.99 for various Dual Format titles...whereas they've all been at least £2-3 more than that online (the new releases anyway). But yeah, definitely keeping my MovieMail order for the time being (but might cancel Eyes Without A Face as it'll likely be cheaper elsewhere).

PS: full artwork for Nosferatu up...as expected bare metal like the Seven Samurai steelbook - nice design but will look a little dumbed down by the bare metal finish in my opinion. Aguirre seems a little better but still not really worth it if I'm getting the set (though it is my favourite Herzog film)
I may cancel the steelbook order too, not a huge fan of steelbooks. I only have one, Scanners and that was just to see what they were like. The Aguirre artwork really isn't doing it for me either. I think the Criterions ive been importing have given me really high standards for artwork! And yeah BFI prices do seem to be okay in HMV, i got Red Desert dual format for £8.99 when the Oxford St store had a closing down 10% off.

You're a fan of Only God Forgives right? I have a spare quad poster, would you have any use for it? Its pretty big so you may not but you can have it if you're interested

GREAT news!

But only 7 Discs?
- Fata Morgana
- Aguirre
- The Engima of Kaspar Hauser
- Heart of Glass
- Stroszek
- Nosferatu
- Woyzeck
- Fitzcarraldo
- Cobra Verde

Are already 9 feature films. And "Land of Silence and Darkness" is also a long feature documentary...

I guess "Fata Morgana" is on a disc with another feature?
Which other feature films will be put together on one disc?

I am especially thrilled about "Fata Morgana" and "Herart of Glass".
Also really looking forwards to seeing "The Engima of Kaspar Hauser" again.

I just hope these films aren't filtered to death like the German BD releases (with the exception of the German Aguirre BD).

Too bad "Even Dwarfs Started Small" and ESPECIALLY "Signs of Life" are missing.

And Zavvi. And most other places I've used before for pre-orders...only Arrow and MovieMail seem to charge on order.

It's ridiculous, truly.
I can't even cancel my order.
I have had to email them just to cancel.

This is their reply -

'We do not charge for any order until we despatch goods if you are using your card as a method of Payment. However you used PayPal and it is in their terms and conditions that the money is debited from your account straight away. This is a PayPal thing and not something we can change.
As requested your order has now been cancelled and we have refunded you via PayPal.'

It's fair enough they use this method, that's not what irks me, it's that they could at least notify customers the charge for pre-ordering is instant and to say it's not something they can change is a lie.

Is it normal that my order is still at 80£? They are going to decrease the price at the moment of despatch?

It usually decreases in your order within a day or two of the change

Some steelbooks are great - I have a fair few, occasionally studio ones are really worth it (case in point: The Hurt Locker), and any from Eureka or Arrow are almost always worth it (especially Eureka). But the BFI steelbooks so far seem a bit budget - I admire them for keeping the price down as a lot of these special edition steelbooks are sold for upwards of £15-20 for a single film, so it's nice to see them sell them for less but it does mean the quality of the product isn't that great.

HMV pricing seems to be all over the place these days - Eureka and Arrow releases are really expensive but then the odd release really cheap (Computer Chess, Kiss Of The Damned), and BFI seem to be generally well-priced at the moment. Let's hope it stays that way. Hope they put it up on their system soon - will check again tomorrow at work (nothing came up on search today)

And yes Ed I did quite like that film - I admit I didn't warm to it right away but it does improve with repeat viewings. You have a UK quad? Like full-sized? If we can find a way to get it to me I'd gladly take it off your hands, cheers! Why'd you not want it?

Would have preferred a separate Herzog/Kinski box together with My Best Fiend, but this price is too good. Just hope they don't turn out the same as the German editions.

yeah its full sized, i dont know the measurements but its big. i work part time as a 'projectionist' at my local independent cinema (it involves very little, pretty much just making sure the film starts and locking up at the end of the night). there are boxes of old/unused posters in tubes, i found a few of interest like gravity, nebraska, blue jasmine. i have two for only god forgives, i could post it to you in a tube but i don't know how much postage costs for that. or if you're still in winchester i could drop it in hmv next time i go there.

I have an Australian boxed set just like that, but unfortunately it's only SD-DVD. But they have all the commentaries (including one on My Best Fiend, as I recall), etc, so I'll be hanging on to it in case this BD set omits anything.

Today, I pre-ordered for the Nosferatu steelbook. Would have preferred a normal case (and 13GBP for that was okay by me), but was not interested in having the whole boxset. Will probably also get Aguirre at some later date. Those two are my favorite Herzog feature films.
