I'll go for the UK release if it's out soon. I don't mind if it's a dubbed one. I actually prefer dubbed tracks for 3D movies so i don't have to worry about reading subtitles and enjoying the 3D at the same time.

Hey there, nothing like a year old bump. Are you saying that it's actually edited vs. the Japanese version, or simply that it's dubbed? Does anyone know?

For 3D viewing, subtitles wreck the experience. They are always either the farthest forward, or have no stereographic information at all, making them stand out jarringly against the 3D content.

I understand that the dub is missing story info compared to translated subtitles, but let me know if the Japanese and International cuts are actually different.

it looks like but I wont confirm that the English dub is 111 minutes while the the Japanese cut is 115 minutes. Interestingly Amazon has a release date for the Japanese version (DVD only) - and of course no 3D bluray for us Americans.

I'm going for the UK steel book edition with the 2D + 3D disc. I could be wrong, but I expect that the UK release will offer the Japanese edition with English subtitles PLUS the English dub for those who prefer not to read while enjoying the on-screen action. The release date is April 27.

I did take a sneak peak at the English 2D version on Netflix recently, just to get a feel for the movie. Based on what I saw I am sure it will be a good blind buy (especially for the 3D version).

In the German 3D BD the z-position of the subtitles are adjusted dependent of the picture so there are always in front of the objects in the movie. I don't have much 3D subtitle experience but I never saw it done differently (I think the Hobbit movies are the other examples with the elvish language).

Yes, the International version has been trimmed slightly and some story elements altered.

Amazon UK has shipped my order for the Captain Harlock steelbook 3D BD. I am very excited about finally seeing this movie in 3D.

I hope I like it. When I viewed the German 3D BD of Battle for Terra I was expecting a lot more from the movie. It was good, but not mind blowing. Hoping Captain Harlock in 3D really kicks azz. Of course, I will share my review after I check it out. Shipments from amazon UK usually takes 3 to 4 weeks to arrive in Coram, NY on Long Island. Yep, I live on an island.

Hey UBJ: Thankfully, no.
[Show spoiler]And based on her television performances I would say she's more like a Long Island extra large.

I got this today, it's Dutch and a third of the price of the steel box. For some reason it's listed under dvd though which makes it hard to find on Amazon as the non steel box was deleted on the day it was released.

Does the Japanese cut on the DVD have English subtitles, or just Dutch ones?

DVD there's only 2 audio tracks on the dvd and they are both English and there's only Dutch subtitles. So no Japanese track and no English subtitles.
Length is 1:46:43.

Bluray there's only one English track and Dutch subtitles.
Length is 1:51:19.

Dunno if that's just a Pal speedup thing or not for the Dvd though.

Thanks, I guess that means the DVD is just the English/International cut with PAL speedup.

Looks like even James Cameron (Avatar 3D) is a fan of Harlock Space Pirate.

It will be released by Twilight Time in December.

"And since there has been such speculation about this project, we will confirm that one of our December titles is CAPTAIN HARLOCK: SPACE PIRATE (2013), which will be our first-ever 3-disc blu-ray set. We are presenting 3-D and 2-D versions of both the Japanese and International Cuts, along with a separate disc comprised of copious extras - quite the package for anime fans! We recognize that this is unusual territory for us, but we were offered the opportunity because of our relationship with Toei Animation - (TT co-founder Brian Jamieson was Toei's marketing consultant for the worldwide release of the film) - and consequently we have been allowed to release the most comprehensive package for this movie on blu-ray anywhere in the world. We are proud to be associated with it, and hope there's at least a few of you that will take pleasure in some truly dazzling visuals - James Cameron, who has enthusiastically endorsed the project, considers Aramaki to be one of the greatest anime directors out there -- hop on board and try it -- you never know, you might like it!"
