Well, I maybe got spoiled by Play.com and the way they priced catalogue titles on release. Even if you factor into account rising costs. £14.99 MAX should be the price these really were sold at, but seems Zavvi found a little novel way around it.

I'll pass, but even if I wanted to buy, a principle would likely make me not bother.

It will be £14.99, I don't get what you are trying to say.

Good luck with that. Limited steels like this that only get 2500 copies sell out quick. I would bet this sells out the same day it goes live...if not in hours.

It says £19.99 on the link and first page. So do they suddenly drop them £5 or they deliberately put wrong price holders on?

You know Zavvi 99% of the time drops the price between first listing and when it goes live.

That, quite possibly, is the nicest Zavvi exclusive I've ever seen. I'm glad they don't do more of this quality.

interesting that Scanavo can do a black gloss steelbook for Zavvi but not Kimchi
It's a possibility that Scanavo knows Kimchi is much more picky including its customers, whereas people buying from Zavvi are usually paying much less, aren't as picky, and probably won't even notice any defects that may happen. Look at some of the past matte Disney's that had no trouble selling out... And then look at Tangled, which is much more beautiful than any of them and is still available to this day. That's my theory anyway... I also really doubt Zavvi will complain to Scanavo for any possible defects (there would have been an uproar if Kimchi released Filth with silver cocaine lines, when Zavvi's attitude on the matter is "deal with it"). Tony/Kimchi have their reputation on the line and customers paying significantly more, so they need to pay attention to every little detail.

Boutique quality (Kimchi) vs mass production quality (Zavvi).

Well for starters the folks at Kimchi probably are highly trained in the use of a boxcutter, and know not to insert it all the way in and slice as hard as you possibly can. So that high training eliminates spine slashes.
As for dings/dents, I would have to think a large percentage of these are caused during shipment. Kimchi definitely offers much better packaging, again the customer is paying for it, with ~700% higher shipping costs than Zavvi.
At the end of the day, is it safe to safe Kimchi cares more about their steelbooks? I would say yes...but no amount of prep work can help if your steelbook is destined to be pinned under a 2000lb crate, during transit, the steelbook will always lose in that situation.
Which brings us to luck. Sometimes you just need to be a little lucky.

All good points, but we are talking about the finishes for The Pianist (Kimchi) vs V for Vendetta (Zavvi).

Scanavo advised Kimchi not to go with a full gloss finish for black because it's prone to defects. And then after hearing about that, a few days later a Zavvi steal is announced with a lot of black and a gloss finish (the reason for what he said).

It's interesting though, because Harry Potter and Jack Reacher were both black and highly glossy, and I never heard anything about defects. Maybe it's possible avoiding defects means more work for Scanavo, meaning less money. The good news is, this is all irrelevant because thankfully Tony went against Scanavo's recommendation!

Looking forward to both releases. And hopefully the mysterious spine slasher (who now works at Amazon too apparently) doesn't give these ones a good slashing. Ordering two copies just to ensure I get one in good condition because if anything were to happen during transit (or at their warehouse), you'd be SOL for a replacement.

Awesome dog, by the way!

There could always be the slight possibility that V for Vendetta won't sport that type of finish?
Who knows, like you, I'm looking forward to these releases, as they both have their unique qualities. As I always like to say: Having many purchasing options is never a bad thing!

LOL! He thanks you for the compliment! He's sitting right next to me as I type this, waiting for Dad to take him on a car ride as I get breakfast. Heck, he's the reason I got up early and found Zavvi's Beetlejuice steelbook had gone live...so I guess I own him one!

Like the artwork and it's more limited than my Canadian steel. Hate these tough double dip decisions...

I wonder how long this one will last before it sells out. I'm thinking 2-3 hours tops

No word yet on their site. This is coming out a month later than Beetlejuice and Mars Attacks, so perhaps it won't be up for a while. We'll hopefully know soon.

I was tempted by the Japanese version about a month ago, but glad I waited. Really like the look of this. Just wish they would hurry up with the pre-order!! Lol!

Not too bad in my opinion. They had the right idea with the cover, but I'm not liking the angle of the photo for V. I would have preferred something a bit more "full frontal." As is, I'm happy sticking with my FutureShop release. It's a bit more classy in my opinion.
