Why bother to do a steelbook if you are just going to use the same old drab picture from a previous release of this movie? I wish real movie lovers at these companies would make these decisions, not the knuckleheads who made this one.

Casing is the same, however the disc in the UK steel-book has the Signature Series remaster (the second remaster after the controversy over the colour timing etc.

The Czech disc is the original dud, in fact if you look closely on opening it even has 'Disc 1' printed on the disc. The Czechs unfortunately got the cheap cheap cash-in.

I'd recommend the UK steel-book.

Excellent job!
I wonder if the UK will do steelbooks for all the Fox Filmmaker Signature series? I would be game for that.

Not only does this SB have terrible artwork, it has the wrong kind of subway train. That model subway car wasn't introduced until 2004, 30 years after the film was made! Sorry if this sounds nitpicky but I'm from NY and these kinds of mistakes are made too frequently by filmmakers and it bothers me The Taking of Pelham 123 remake also made a big mistake: the #6 train does NOT go to Coney Island

Does the steel have two disc holders? And the U.S. remastered has a booklet? I picked up the us remastered when it dropped to $10, then based on this picture I got the UK steel. The front is okay but the inner artwork sold me. Should have had a close up of his face as he misses the baby carriage on the back, lol. Anyways. Got the first two disc release for $7 a few weeks ago. I was curious about that first transfer and now I have all the extras. My us remastered is still sealed, and I was going to sell it, but there is a booklet inside? And is there any quality difference between the UK and us versions? I was under the impression they were identical but you kept the U.S. version in the UK steel.

I bought the French Connection 1 and 2 blu ray from Amazon uk. While it was on the way I read about the transfer and wondered how bad could it be. It was bad. Unwatchable. So when I was in the states recently I picked up the filmmakers signature blu ray hoping that the new remaster would be improved. Well, turns out that the disc in the box was the old version, even said disc 1 on it and I was already back home. I popped the disc in and was horrified to see the same ugly colour bleeds. So now I've ordered this steelbook from Amazon uk and I really hope this will not be the old disc again! In any case, nice to have the booklet from the US disc...

For those still interested in the steel book - the package now comes with a single disc, which has the previous orange pic of Hackman (but crucially is dated 2014 and no disc 1 label), but sadly no signature series booklet.

So this looks like a budget stripped down version but the single disc is the signature series remastered version with all the extras, albeit with the previous orange picture just to confuse people.

It always was a single disc. I added the 2nd disc.

Ok thanks for clarifying. What extras are on the second disc that aren’t included on the main one?

I’ve put the US disc inside the steel book same as you as the orange label one just looks silly.

UK steelbook is the remastered version it's the same disc as signature series
Same extras only difference is steelbook don't include the booklet and artwork on disc different

USA release signature series was also only 1 disc but included a booklet

Previous USA/UK release of French connection from 2009 has a bonus disc that was a 2 disc release

The signature series is missing the extra The Poughkeepsie Shuffle" documentary (53:38)

He put that disc inside the steelbook and added a double tray to fit bonus disc

Extras from 2009 Bonus Disc
The Poughkeepsie Shuffle" documentary (53:38)
"Making the Connection: The Untold Stories of The French Connection" documentary (56:33)
7 Deleted scenes (with optional introduction and audio commentary by director William Friedkin:
- Play All (11:37)
- William Friedkin Discusses the Deleted Scenes (1:15)
- Tailing the Frog (2:17)
- The Whip Girl (1:37)
- Deveraux at Work (:51)
- Mutchie’s Bar and Mutchie’s Bar Part 2 (2:41)
- Girl on a Bicycle (:53)
- Street Walker (:43)
- Hector (1:25)
"Anatomy of a Chase" featurette (20:20)
"Hackman on Doyle" featurette (10:49)
"Friedkin and Grosso Remember the Real French Connection" featurette (19:12)
"Scene of the Crime" featurette (5:14)
"Color Timing The French Connection" featurette (13:15)
"Cop Jazz: The Music of Don Ellis" featurette (10:04)
"Rogue Cop: The Noir Connection" featurette (13:47)

I saw one unopened on eBay. It says it’s the United Kingdom version. Region free. It 18 at both bottom sides. One is 18 in an orange circle and the other is 18 in a blue hexagon shape. Is this the good version?

I watched my steelbook this evening and without a doubt this is the best the film has ever looked.

Depends on how old the steelbook is.

There is now clearly 1 steelbook but with 2 different types of disc.

One that says disc 1 and is meant to be apart of a 2 disc set, but not remastered.
And the second without disc 1 and is remastered

A bit rubbish is you ask me. But clearly they have made loads of steels
