Yes, but they don't have the same type of budgets for them. The menus on these discs were interesting, for example, because they didn't use the typical WHV templates. What I was getting at was that they might not have the same level of quality control over these as they aren't sent out to retail stores. As in, they were produced like normal blu-rays, but an encoding glitch went unnoticed before the sets went into production because they didn't allocate the same amount of effort into checking the product.

I was just confirming that I didn't spot the glitch in either since I happened to have tried both. When I first opened the set up, I checked the scene as described in Play All to check it, and then noted the scene for when I actually watched the episode, which I did by selecting the episode by itself (since that is my preferred personal playback method). No reason to not be thorough when reporting back since both actions were taken anyways, y'know?

Got a pretty good review. So I'm guessing there weren't a lot of technical oversights associated with this release. Could have been a bad batch of discs?

There's no reason to assume that Warner Archive Collection has less quality control than the regular Warner Home Video releases. I wouldn't even be surprised if they were done by the same department at Warner.

Fair point, but when I said "it's the same data", I meant that literally. There's just one copy of each episode on the disc. All that picking the "play all" option does is to tell the player to play one right after the other, and to combine the times as if they were all one episode. But all the bits on the disc are the same regardless of which option you pick, and if there's an encoding glitch in the middle of an episode, it's going to show up in both.

I didn't assume, I said I was worried that it could have been something like that, since they were originally a MOD branch, and have smaller budgets. And then I went on to give an example, the menus. They didn't use the same menu template that WHV uses, so they probably aren't produced at the same department.

Also, not 100% on this, but wasn't it Warner who made a disc that displayed in 1080i when you played the movie normally but if you activated a Picture in Picture bonus feature it reverted to a 1080p presentation? (which would prove that play all could play the content differently then playing it by selecting a different option in the menu).

FYI - DeepDiscount is having a 15% off sale today, and when using the promo code HEAT, the price for this set drops to $39.18 shipped. This is the best price I've found for it since it was released.

Was just browsing around, and DeepDiscount has this down to $36.49 right now, the lowest I've seen.

Season Three is officially announced ... on DVD only. I expected better from Warner Bros.

Keep in mind that seasons one and two came to blu-ray long after they were are available on DVD. Also, the show is reportedly close to being picked up for a fourth season by Netflix; I imagine that if that happens, WAC will put out the third and fourth seasons of the show as a blu-ray bundle, similar to what they did with the first two seasons.

Thanks for talking me down off the cliff. Another two-season bundle makes a lot of sense, and I think the chances for a Netflix pickup are pretty high!

I won't comment about whether or not Warner Archive will do another 2-season bundle, or release Season 3 by itself. However...

...the announcement you linked to is for a general market release through the normal Warner Home Video imprint. That's what you'll find in places like Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart.

There's no reason to fear that a Blu-ray won't come from Warner Archive Collection, which has limited distribution, and doesn't show up in the brick'n'mortar stores. If the DVD release was through Warner Archive (like the release of Almost Human) then I'd worry.

Of course, there are no guarantees, but we should stay positive.

Huge news. I had lost almost all hope of getting the third season on BD.

Most likely, but S4 (I believe) has only recently started production.

Off Topic: S4 of Hawaii Five 0 will be available on Blu-Ray starting February 5th in Germany. It hasn't been announced on Blu-Ray anywhere else.

I'm also looking forward to getting the third season of Longmire. Can't wait.

I know it was recently picked up...but it's never too early to start the prayer cycle.

Excellent news. This means that the S1/S2 bundle sold well enough to keep releasing the show on BD.

That cover art is great, too.
