1A. Raiders Of The Lost Arc - A few missteps. But captures that classic feel good serial feel.
1B. Crystal Skull - As good as the original in every way. Just a fun ride. The magic is back. 3. Last Crusade - Decent. But elevated by the always entertaining Connery as Papa Indy. 4. Temple of Doom - Much better film if you shut it off right after the escape from Lao Che. .... And Credits! Boom... perfect Indiana Jones short film now. ![]() Last edited by Beast; 04-21-2014 at 06:19 PM. |

Temple of Doom
Raiders of the Lost Ark Last Crusade Crystal Skull When your films main selling point is "It's not nearly as bad as the other throwback I was recently involved in," that's not good news. |

- Raiders of the Lost Ark: a true classic, great, great fun.
- The Last Crusade: Has the same vibe as Raiders, love the plot and Sean Connery of course. - The Temple of Doom: I like how this one is tonally very different, darker. - Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: I don't hate this film, I think it's fun, but some of the CGI stuff really puts me off and the ending didn't work for me. I liked Cate Blanchett in this, though. |

![]() Quote:
![]() Temple of Doom feels like it's original while having one of the greatest chase scenes using mining cars. The Last Crusade is too similar to ROTLA and the material seems like it was recycled. Obviously ROTLA is the best of the lot since it came out in 1981 and the idea was so fresh, probably the first action/adventure film with that kind of energy level. ![]() |

1. Raiders. It's a perfect piece of film entertainment. Every aspect of the film is near perfect.
John Williams is perfect. 2. Temple of Doom. As good a 1st sequel as we hardly ever get. It is so different than Raiders in so many ways. Again John Williams is perfect and perhaps even better. 3. Least Crusade. It's okay the way Olive Garden is okay. But let's face it there are so many problems. After the criticisms regarding the darkness of Temple the filmmakers go back to copy Raiders and play it so safe. The lack of a threatening villain doesn't help. Everthing is so uninspired even John Williams. 4. Crystal Skulls. I blame meth! After 17 years this is the best you can come up with. Yes it's good to see familiar faces and this time John Williams finds inspiration, his score is the best thing in the film. He clearly channels Jerry Goldsmith who was a master at scoring mediocre films. It's watchable but we deserved better. Still I will see Indiana Jones and the Search for a Better Stool Softener or whatever they call it. |

I really thought I'd have to defend Temple of Doom, but it looks like there are more than a few fans here. Sure, Raiders is more polished and ambitious, but Temple is dark, daring, and different.
I think if Crystal Skull had been made back in the 90s, even it would be better than Last Crusade, which is essentially Raiders-lite with tons of bogus gags and kiddie shtick. What truly kills Crystal Skull in my eyes is the ugly CG effects and Harrison Ford's geriatric apathy. 1. Raiders of the Lost Ark 2. Temple of Doom 3. The Last Crusade 4. The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull |
