Yep – it’s not scary if you know the background or the hows and whys.

Alien was scary because they are in outer space and come across an alien whose motives (if any) and capabilities are completely unknown and foreign to the crew and us the viewer. Anything was possible and plausible.

Now we have to think about it…and how it relates to the creation of man??? F**k all that – The 30+ years I spent revisiting Alien and not knowing (or caring) was a lot more fun.

It’s like if they made an Exorcist prequel about Capt Howdy as some sort of swashbuckling pirate…Or a Star Wars prequel where we see Darth Vader as some punk kid in a world where technology is far more superior than in the current Star Wars universe…

Alien basically wrote the book on how effective it is to 'not' show you everything and to let the viewer scare themselves. Prometheus went against all of that.

PLEASE GOD NO!!!! Star Wars was already ruined by it's creator (although it may be saved by Abrams). Please don't let another director tarnish a masterpiece by revisiting it decades later. After Prometheus (visually beautiful but mind-numbingly stupid in too many ways to count) I fear what a sequel might bring.

...I can either outrun the crashing spaceship by running a half a mile straight ahead or 20 feet to the side...I'll just keep running straight!

I don't believe Deckard is a replicant based on facts in the movie (Final Cut version). Not sure how that opinion would be considered trolling, but whatever. I'll certainly watch a sequel. I liked Prometheus despite its flaws.

Glad I'm not alone in this. We all know Ford is going to say yes, he's actually been talking about how he'd like to be a part of it the last few months. Good to see him returning to some of the roles we all thought he'd been less than satisfied with. I'm actually really looking forward to this.

Thematically, Deckard needs to be human because it takes a machine to show him the value of life.

One of those movies I'd be devastated that they made, but would have to go see it anyways

an alien prequel made way more sense than a blade runner sequel will ever do

If this sucks I will just do what I do with Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, Prometheus, Terminator Rise Of The Machines, Terminator Salvation, The Thing prequel and Escape From L.A.

Pretend they don't exists and enjoy the good ones. If this sucks it still won't ruin Blade Runner The Final Cut for me which is my favorite film of all time. Perhaps if Blade Runner II is terrible then Ridley Scott will try to fix it 4 more times until he gets it right.

You could argue that hardly any films need any sequels but Blade Runner definitely doesn't need one.

I say this but I'm still interested in what the film makers will come up with as I'm guessing that they're following the open ended ending in the Final Cut of the 1st film.

Oh the dilemma.

Thats definitely not trolling - the deck-a-rep argument has been going on for ages and both sides have merit.

Ford himself said he never thought his character was a replicant (although maybe that was the idea!)

+1

The film is visually stunning. For all its faults, there are some sequences that are really impressive. The medpod scene still gives me chills.

That's kind of why I don't want Harrison Ford in the sequel. It would ruin 20 years of discussion and debate.

EJO being short and to-the-point about Deckard.

How? If he is a replicant (thats a big if ) hes obviously not a normal replicant - Rachel isnt either.

anyone here play the video game?

The player assumed the role of "Blade Runner" Ray McCoy. The events of game took place at the same time as the events of the film, several of the film's characters appeared in the game. Rick Deckard, appeared in a fleetingly non-speaking role in the game, he was referred to multiple times, and his activities from the film were mentioned by non-player characters. Other parallels with the film include the in-game reproduction of several prominent locations, buildings, and scenes.

Maybe we could have a film about Ray McCoy?

Yeah I did! A loooong time ago! It was pretty good, captured the look of the film quite well.

It’s written and it’s damn good,” Scott says of the Blade Runner sequel. “Of course it involves Harrison, who is a survivor after all these years—despite the accident,” he says with a laugh (referring, no doubt, to Ford’s Star Wars injury). “So yes, that will happen.”
