Shaolin Soccer. I thought it looked incredibly stupid and would be garbage. I am willing to give anything a chance though, and try to watch as much as I can, so I rented it eventually and quite enjoyed it. It got me in the theater to see Kung Fu Hustle.

Casino Royale (2006)

First time I saw it, I didn't like the new direction Daniel Craig's Bond was taking. I thought he was boring and callous, and I felt that the movie itself was way too slow paced, had no coherent plot for the first half, and had no action.

A couple years later, I started to appreciate Craig's take on Bond as a cold-hearted killer with a soft, vulnerable spot, as well as the subtle yet high stakes of his mission. It also took me a while to see how the first half of the movie clicked in with Bond's plot to thwart Le Chiffre, and I loved how
[Show spoiler]Bond became who he is after he was cheated by Vesper.
It's not the greatest Bond movie ever made, but it was the one we needed after Die Another Day almost spoiled the franchise.

I wouldn't hate on a movie before I saw it, but there are a crap load of movies I've had no interest in & after watching, loved them. Most recently Ender's Game. I thought it was gonna be horrible.

Actually, I hated the thought of watching it, so I guess that counts for something.

I feel the same way. I hate the fact that he's still making comedies & they're still making money. In fact, his movies are the closest I'll come to "hating" before seeing.

I avoided musicals for most of my life, because the idea just seemed so silly and pointless to me.

When I finally saw Singin' in the Rain, West Side Story, Cover Girl, and other such films, though, I was surprised at how much I loved them.

I had never seen a commercial for it and I hadn't even heard of it at the time but 3 minutes into the movie, the part where trinity floats in the air and kicks the cop in slow mo, all the whiney and crying just stopped!

I didn't know what the hell I was in for, for the next two hours because up to that point, I had never seen a movie like it, I was in awe, granted I still like The Mummy but only the first one!

My worst mistake spending money on a movie was Ultraviolet, I don't what the hell I was thinking skipping high school to go see that filth! I should have stayed in school...
I had the same experience with Lethal Weapon 2 & Batman (89) when I was 11.

I'd been begging my pops to see Batman. Two weeks after the release, he says, we're going to the movies. I'm hyped because I've been staying away from my friends because I didn't want to hear nothing about Batman. He walks up to the counter & says "2 for Lethal Weapon 2" I thought he was joking, I never even heard of the 1st one. Is this gonna be another Leonard Part 6?

I wasn't crying but I was upset. I asked him could he go watch LW & I go watch BM, he laughed his cruel laugh, which made me feel worse. He said, "don't worry, this will be one the best movies you'll ever see in your life" which I doubted. Lights go down, I have my arms crossed, screw face on, feeling betrayed. I hear the Looney Tunes theme music, OK, you've piqued my interest. I see "the old mean guy" from The Color Purple, I'm thinking, you gotta be kidding me. Riggs start making siren sounds out of the window, OK, that's funny. Murtaugh complains about his wife's "new car", Riggs starts chasing a car, on foot! Automatic machine guns, cursing??!!?? Mom never lets me watch movies like this. I'm all in. But the part that really got me interested was when I first laid eyes on Rianne

Lethal Weapon 2 is my favorite movie of all time. Perfect combo of action, comedy, drama, romance. Perfect!

On another note, I really have to start reading other post before I post. 3 post in this short amount of time isn't cool.

There's A LOT of movies that I underestimated and trashed before seeing them and actually enjoyed them. Most recently Labor Day and Pompeii. I also didn't think Days of Future Past was gonna be good at all and I absolutely loved it.

The Rundown. trailers looked awful but several TV spots with blurbs from Ebert & Roeper and others surprised me. watched it, loved it! The Rock's best film imo.

Days of Future Past was Singer's return to the franchise. I was rooting for it and I was not dissappointed.

I remember sitting through the trailer for 21 Jump Street, and finding it PAINFULLY unfunny, but later I gave the film a shot on Blu-Ray, and after an admittedly rocky first half-hour, it just got funnier and funnier to the point where I was roaring with laugher.

hmmm.. there's all kinds of irony here being that 1) not only was it you who started this thread, but 2) you've provided your own logic as to why Titanic might be worth your time.

If any film got an unmerited, unnecessary amount of s**t heaped upon it, that film would be Titanic. do yourself a favor and set aside 3 hours some night.

Yep. Me too. Thought it was gonna suck and that Channing Tatum was gonna be a meathead but boy was I wrong on both points.

300 for me. Thought it looked like a chicken-sh!t CG fest for testosterone-starved young men. Then, I watched it.

Great flick and possibly under-appreciated, IMO.

I have to admit, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire actually impressed me way more than I expected it to. I thought the first movie was just OK and I thought we'd get more of the same wih the sequel. However CF went way beyond my expectations.

How is it possible to hate a film that you've never seen? It's not possible to hate something that you've never seen. You may avoid it because it seems to be something that you wouldn't enjoy. But, there is NO WAY to hate that film before seeing it.

This is how I feel too, but they're plenty of people that do!

Ok, regardless of what I said already on this thread. I'm sort of in the same boat here, not a musical guy, but despite my cynicism, Singin' in the Rair certainly worked some magic on me.

Lord of the Rings. I just hated the concept and thought what Randall thought in Clerks II, that it was nothing but lots of walking and talking. Boy was I wrong :P

Singin' in the Rain conquers the three main stereotypes illiterates have about musicals:
1) It has a PLOT,
2) It has a sense of humor, and
3) Gene Kelly set out to be "the Guy's dancer", and succeeded. (Hence the Cover Girl recommendation.)

Most people who hate musicals without ever having seen them think that they all starred Fred Astaire, had dancers making overhead patterns with their legs, and had the camera track past bathing beauties jumping into the pool...Uh, you got two different decades and three different studios there, Leonard Maltin.

I'm definitely glad I gave it a chance.
Maybe after a few gallons of vodka, Daredevil is entertaining. I tried it sober a couple of times and am still suffering ill effects.
