There was a once annual sale on Twilight Time titles, bringing many titles to $19.99. But the sale is now over. Ended last week. So they are back to their normal $29.99 on Screenarchives.

This is a film that I'm surprised didn't sell out after a few months. One of my favourite Twilight Time releases.

Watched this last night. I haven't seen it since I bought the DVD many years ago. I knew I liked it, but I forgot how really good it is. I was also very pleased with the transfer, clear with lots of detail. The "making of" documentary is excellent. Oliver Stone basically walks you through the movie from inception to finish. Stone, James Woods, Jim Belushi, the original journalist Richard Boyle (whose stories were used as a starting point for the script), and the real Ambassador to El Salvador at the time all contribute to the discussion. I knew it was based on true events, but was amazed to find out that the script actually chronicles the real events and incidents that happened to Boyle during the revolution, and is very true to the real story. Stone even asked the Ambassador if he could use his real name in the movie. For political reasons they didn't. It was interesting to hear how they went about attaining/recreating the grittiness and squalor on set that permeated the real locale. Woods and Stone also had a love hate relationship going on at the time, as all the actors were pushed to the limits by the realism of the sets. They both have a great genuine respect for each other, and actually became good friends by the end of the project. You know how some documentaries can be full of fluff and silliness................ this is 100% USDA choice I highly recommend it.

Says it is coming soon to the UK. Hopefully not region locked and eventually a decent price.

Any news on this? I'd consider a UK import. I never heard of this title until now. The DVD isn't much cheaper than the blu at this point, so I'm thinking of picking up the TT release next month. I'm really only basing my purchase off the fact James Woods is hilarious in everything he's in. I'm still pissed the second season of Shark never got released.

I don't mind picking up a TT release, but would it kill them to stock on Amazon as a marketplace seller or otherwise? First, so I can get my free 2 day shipping, and second because idiots on there are trying to gouge people for $60 for it while it's still in print.

That's a strange and untrue statement

I'll pick up the TT release soon. James Woods isn't hilarious in this, and it is in no way a comedy. It's a dark film and one of the few Oliver Stone movies that I like.

Also, Screen Archives (TT's distributor) ARE selling it on Amazon Look and ye shall find : http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...&condition=new

While Woods is often funny, there is nothing funny about this film. As much as I like it, it's hard to watch. So much so I passed on the BD since I can only see myself watching this once every 10 years or so tops. I did grab the dvd when it came out, and only watched it twice since 2001. I do like it better than Heaven on Earth, but not enough for $30 on a disc that will collect dust for most of it's life. Very well done film, just too dark and depressing to revisit much.

Yeah, it's definitely a hard watch (and I like dark cinema). I figure I can watch this every 2 years at the most. I didn't pick this up when it was first released, and then later on, TT added it to one of their rare sales (for $20 I think). I didn't have the funds at the time, so I didn't order. Then, in the last TT sale, when I had money, they didn't add Salvador. I'll definitely pick it up before it disappears though, sale or not.

BUT they're not Amazon fulfilled. They should be. Also, I read some quotes on IMDB. Sounds like typical James Woods dialog to me.

It may read funny, but he's such a scummy character it doesn't play funny. I'd suggest seeing if you can check out the dvd from the library, watch it on cable or stream it first to see if you like it. I fear if you're looking for any comedy, you'll be sorely disappointed. Then again, I find things funny that others don't, so maybe this will have a bit of humor in your eyes.
I love dark movies too, but this is just relentlessly dark with little to no comic relief.

I just ordered it. Hadn't planned to buy during the sale as I picked up a few titles with the last signed promo but I've never ordered from the TT site before so I thought this would be the best time to give them a try. It's funny reading old posts from people mulling ordering during last year's sale. It's a good film featuring a great performance by Woods.
