How can a good movie have the best of everything (crew, cast, costume designers, makeup artists, etc) yet the graphic designers that make movie posters and video covers are the worst?

It's hard to imagine that every single art dept in all movie companies are pressured by producers to release crap. Im assuming that an art dept would show many different versions at a meeting and the producers aka bosses/managers pick the worst ones and ignore the artistic ones?

For example:

X-Men poster is just bad. Background is empty, it tell us nothing(it not even shows future or past word... it shows... um... burning house?). Also all cast is too tight in the middle.
I actually really like the DOFP movie poster. One of my favs in recent times. The Thor 2 one is the only one I'd say has too much going on and doesn't look all that appealing. IM3 and Guardians look fine to me as well.

Just me I guess but its a superhero flick, with multiple characters, like to see them incorporated in the poster.

That's because movie posters are pretty much the LAST aspect of movie marketing that matters anymore...thirty or more years ago, often times the only way you'd know a movie was coming out would be a poster in the hallway of your local theater a few months in advance, and thus it needed to be eye-catching, but nowadays with the internet, every tiny aspect of highly-anticipated movies gets dissected to a frightening degree, and trailers keep getting longer and more detailed (and you don't even need to go to the theater to see them anymore), so a poster doesn't need to tell the people walking past them at the multiplex anything more than A.) the title and B.) who's starring in it, thus these ugly, unimaginative "floating head" Photoshop disasters we all hate.

Well to be fair, the Monkeys aren't actually real enough either. I'm guessing they needed to stress really quickly that humans are in the film as well.

EDIT: That X-Men poster is probably least flattering Fassbender has ever looked...and I've seen Hunger!

What the hell is going on with Michael Rappaport's head/neck! How do the people that make these posts think that looks okay?

Don't forget cropping out the heads so people can't tell those models aren't in the movie. Or that all the characters in the movie are Asian.

Welp, I'm gonna bump this thread because I feel the need to. This poster is just.... Awful. The movie, itself, doesn't look that bad but the poster looks horrendous. The company could have done a much, much better job with it but it just looks like they grabbed an 8-year-old kid from the local Toys R Us and just told him to go with it.

Their legs could be curled up. But yeah that's terrible. Its clearly their heads photoshopped on other people's bodies.

Favreau, Vergara, Johansson, and the little kid look like their respective heads have been cropped from pictures of them attending a real-life function of some sort. That's so shoddy, lmao.
