I haven't watched The Hurt Locker in years. I even bought the Blu about two years ago and I still haven't watched it.

The Oscar Best Picture Winners rarely seem to be favorites among moviegoers, at least nowadays.

It's always been that way. I love the Oscars but take their winners with a grain of salt as the Academy is very biased towards certain types of films.

As far as a film being overrated, I find haters tend to love to use that word. There are plenty of well regarded films that I don't embrace as much as some, but I think it'd be a tad simplistic to call them over rated.

The Matrix isn't over rated. It was groundbreaking and innovative. To call it "overrated" is just silly IMO.

I agree about Gravity, Blue is the Warmest Color, and Avatar. Obviously this is all opinion but I think other than that this list is outrageous. The Matrix and Drive being the most "wtf" listings.

Exactly. IMO, 12 Years a Slave is overrated. There were quite a few films more deserving of best picture, IMO.

The Matrix is only overrated in the sense of its philosophical and metaphysical messages and themes: still an outstanding film, but there's nothing it says which hasn't already been expressed for years in cyberpunk and other genre fiction.

That's deep but I'm pretty sure no one went into the movie saying, yeah this is just like that other movie I saw. Groundbreaking movie no matter how you slice it

Least. Necessary. List. Ever.

It's one thing for us to ***** on this forum that xxx makes too much popularity, but for a fairly respected (?) thing the Huffington Post? Seriously? Of all the film lists they could have made??

Well, too bad they didn't include Lion King, so they could have put it together with Inception and Matrix for the "Convicted Anime Plagiarisms Praised to the Skies By Gullible Non-Anime Fans" trilogy.

At least one poster has stated Inception, Avatar and The Dark Knight are overrated. The trilogy is complete.

I don't know if "Avatar" is overrated or not. I just know that I don't like it, and have never seen the whole thing in one sitting.

That being said ...

That list is effin' stupid. And all one needs do is read the commentary on "Blue Valentine" to understand that. Whether one likes or dislikes BV, what that writer wrote about it is utterly inane, and shows that s/he has absolute ZERO understanding of the film.

I don't disagree that it was groundbreaking, but all everyone talks about is the bullet time and cg effects. And as I said, I don't dislike the movie. I actually very much like it. It's a cool action/sci-fi movie. I still view it as overrated. It's frequently named as one of the best movies ever made, which I simply disagree with, but that's a whole other discussion. To call any popular film overrated is going to seem silly to someone else who likes the film.

ITT: Apparently something inspired by Hamlet is actually inspired by something centuries newer.

Competely agree. I thought it was 'just okay' the first time I saw it, and my opinion hasn't changed over the years. Wildly overrated.

Other contenders for "Most Overrated Movies EVER"

Fight Club
Forrest Gump
Usual Suspects, The
Sixth Sense, The

I just watched Gravity a couple of weeks ago for the first time and did not get all the love for the film it ok. As for Avatar well I have never liked the film at all. James Cameron was a great filmmaker with films like Aliens, True Lies and The Abyss on his cv but Avatar was just awful.
