Massive shame about the lossy audio though. For that price, it should be perfect.

I wonder if this will play in 3-D on my Panasonic via the top-menu trick. Is there anyone in the US with a Panasonic player (either 3 or 2-D) that can verify this one way or another?

NoirFan - a member called docquest posted this on the Inferno thread in the 3D Movie section; I'm not sure what your model number is but here goes:

Quote:
Mine arrived today and I was pleasantly surprised it worked in my non-modded panasonic BDT110 player. I read about this "trick" online and though I'd try it before deciding to buy a region free player. This supposedly works with the panasonic BDT 110, 210, and 310 players.

- Insert non region A disc and wait for the "Wrong Region" screen to appear
- Press Stop
- Press 1 and the number "1" should start blinking in the upper right corner. Press the "OK" button while 1 is blinking. You may have to try this a few times, as it usually doesn't work the first time. Try pressing OK on the first or second blink and it should work.
- Disc should boot to the discs main menu or start playing the movie

I just sampled through a few scenes and the 3D is incredible. I wish more modern films looked this good in 3D. Can't wait to watch the whole thing later tonight. Its the first time I've seen the movie and from what others have said it one of the best from the golden era.

Thanks charnier, I should have checked that forum before asking my question. As far as I am aware all Panasonics have the same top-menu trick capabilities, so I'll take a chance with my 220 model. Worst case, I can play the 2D version on my Insignia.

Just picked this up at Amazon UK direct from Panamint. Hope to have it in a week.

Looks like this is available region free from Panamint's website now though at a higher price. The website also states that the new edition has lossless audio.

That was part of "the news" on this re-release last month.

I'm thinking the cheaper ones might be selling off of the lossy audio stock? I think I'll hang on a little longer then.

Now £14.99 plus postage (region B/lossy edition) at Amazon. That was the sweet price for me to buy that instead of the more expensive lossless audio edition. Looking forward to enjoying it in a few days.

Is the region free edition absolutely confirmed as having lossless audio?

i can't believe Panamint reissue this movie only 4 months later with lossless audio!

Has anybody heard of an exchange program?

If not I'm gonna write them, I'm OK to support independent editors but not if they reissue a much better edition so rapidly!

I just learned about this film. I didn't know it.
Pity it doesn't include English subtitles.
It looks interesting though.

Apparently, you have no clue how the 2nd version even appeared.

Short version...

Nobody knew how well it would sell. Panamint(really small distributor. But Russell is top notch) could only secure rights for Region B.

It sold like hotcakes. The film owner went back to Russell and said "what if we do this region free and lossless"...

Don't blame Panamint. Blame the film owner.

By the way. At today's "sale price"(I just looked), it will cost $35(roughly) to get one.

I'll offer $25(mailed) for a region B. I don't have the movie. Want it on BD, but was waiting for a 2D BD...not happening.

(Nevermind, just bought the region free 4 pack)

Sweeeeeeeet. I toyed with getting this for ages but the price was just too high compared to something like Dragonfly Squadron, which even as an import cost far less.

I had no idea that the audio was lossy on the original edition of Inferno but I'm not cut up about it as I doubt that it's had a vastly expensive audio restoration to begin with. £14.99 edition ordered, brilliant!!

[edit]Wait a second, the region free version's only £19.99 on their website, that's cheaper than what they were selling the region B version for a few months ago! It's only 4 quid more than the old version, so I might as well get the new one and be done with it.

I just ordered the "4 region free pack". $90(ish) to the US.

Mine says dispatched already as well. It's like they have them ready to go wrapped already and all they have to do is print postage...
