Default What makes a Steelbook worth the extra cost?

Wondering what makes Steelbooks worth the extra cost? Is it mostly just having a metal case versus plastic?

Personal preference at the end of the day. Some very limited steelbooks will be worth spending more on than amaray because they will increase in value over time.

And quite a bit of the time, the SteelBook will have different art, enhancements like embossing/ debossing, etc.

Unfortunately most studios don't treat the contents of the SteelBook as Premium and we get shafted on bonus discs, which doesn't make sense.

I think it's the extra thrill you get when you are able to obtain one that isn't dented or damaged. You just don't get that from a normal amray.

Haven't bought many in eco-cases? Lucky you. You were being sarcastic, right?

What makes a Porsche worth the extra cost? Both items have the same quality interior parts as their respective counterparts. Preference and willingness to spend the money is what it boils down to.

A Porsche and a steelbook comparison is a new one for me.

Not all steelbooks cost more then there plastic brothers. Many times you can find a good deal just by browsing this forum right here. You just have to be here at the right time.

The comparison lies in Porsche with other car manufacturers (Honda, Mazda, Toyota, etc). That is an analogy for the comparison between Steelbooks and Amaray cases. Both scenarios involve shinier and prettier outsides with identical insides in regards to their respective couterparts.

Wouldn't really use that comparison, because not only do you get a shiny new Porsche, the insides aren't the same. I certainly try to achieve "Mach" speed with my Honda Jazz (Fit), but its insides burst when I try to do it.

I would use another one. Smartphones, tablets or laptops. The components of a certain range are exactly the same, but having a shinier, tougher or just a fruit symbol, is enought to double or even triple the price.

A steelbook has the same exact insides of an amaray. But the exterior is like having a smartphone built with aluminium... Much shinier!!!!

They look nice, but to me, they're not worth the headache of finding undented/unscratched copies. Plus, keeping them undented/unscratched is equally a pain.

In my honest opinion, nothing. Steelbooks are just a metal casing implied as being bonus and usually with more fancy cover art. But it's usually sold at the same or similar prices to normal cases.

Not all steelbooks are created equal. Some are more limited runs and only available for a short time. Those are the ones that will maintain or increase in value.

Nothing. It's decorative personal preference at best. Most owners will only be seeing the spine anyway.
