none of those count. The list is for movies where most of the film, if not all takes place on a train. Too many here seem to be missing that point.

Regarding Throw Momma From the Train, see my comment above. I'll add Snowpiercer once a pre-order is up. Adding Runaway Train now.
While I see that many people are either ignoring or misunderstanding your criteria, I'd have to strongly disagree with excluding From Russia With Love. Several Bond films (Live and Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me, Goldeneye) feature scenes set on trains and I would exclude them, however, a large chunk of screen time in From Russia With Love takes place on a train, pivotal scenes such as
[Show spoiler]Red Grant impersonating a British agent, murdering Kerim Bey, getting into a fight with Bond, revealing to Bond the involvement of SPECTRE
, all take place on the train. To exclude From Russia With Love IMHO would undermine the point of this thread.

Almost got it...

You've made a good case for this film's inclusion, and since I haven't seen it in a long time, I'll use your arguments as justification for including it.

To everyone else making suggestions, thank you. However, please make sure you read the criteria for a film's inclusion in the OP before suggesting a title.

Would it be too much of a stretch to mention Dumbo? Union Pacific? and I am sure this film will not qualify, but how about How the West Was Won? One of the segments was about the railroads, and the last part of the film has one of the great train scenes in film. If you are thinking that I "just don't get it", that's ok, cause I am old and don't care.

What, not any mention of Von Ryan's Express with Frank Sinatra? There is also The Professionals with Burt Lancaster. That is on blu ray = on dvd there is Dark Passage with James Stewart, The Great Locomotive Chase with Fess Parker and Jeffrey Hunter ( Disney ),Emperor Of The North starring Lee Marvin, It Happened To Jane with Doris Day is a good one. There are probably a few more = I don't think The Hunter with Steve McQueen really counts, although what is there is pretty good.

It's in the OP.

Also, I've decided to open the floodgates and split the OP into two lists. Here are the revised criteria for inclusion:

1. The first list only includes films that either take place at least almost entirely on a train or feature a train that is absolutely central to the plot.

2. The second list includes films that contain at least one pivotal scene that takes place on a train, but do not have a train that features into the story as pivotally as the films in the first list.

I'll be adding many of the earlier suggestions to the second list. If you see any others that fit into either group, please post them. Thanks.

One more additional note: if you make a suggestion, please include your rationale for why it belongs on either List #1 or List #2. I know I will not have seen all of the films people are suggesting, so you'll need to post your reasoning for why the film(s) in question should be added to the OP.

Another vote for BTTF3, as it definitely fits the criteria for the second list.
[Show spoiler]The whole climax takes place in, around, and on the outside of a train, the incomplete railroad bridge is central to the plot, the train time machine, the showdown between Mad Dog and "Clint" at 8 o'clock is determined by the train schedule, Doc & Marty's "science experiment" train stickup, etc.

Guess I may need glasses - not sure how I missed that! White Heat has a good train scene in the beginning of the film. There is a scene in The Magnificent Men In There Flying Machines with Terry Thomas, a train figures prominently in Hour Of The Gun with James Garner, some time is taken on one in Man Of The West with Gary Cooper. All are on blu ray, though some are imports. Oh, and Doctor Zhivago.

Can't have The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford on List 2 without including the 1939 version of Jesse James

The second list is silly...you might as well just make a list of westerns.

Added. Thanks.

As you can see, the second list contains much more than just westerns. In fact, it's mostly populated by films that aren't westerns. And not every western features a significant scene (or scenes) set on trains. So next time, before denigrating someone else's hard work, at least present a valid criticism.
