I was really surprised that they went with past winners in every series acting category, with the only actor winning for a new role being Allison Janney for Mom, but she's Emmy royalty with 5 past wins. I really expected Orange is the New Black to do much better and thought it was a real contender for Best Comedy, but it practically went home empty-handed. I also expected a lot better showing from True Detective. If it had submitted itself in the miniseries category it would have cleaned up. I thought Matthew McConaughey would win for sure as an Oscar winner and a huge movie star but apparently the Emmy voters don't love movies stars the way the Golden Globes do (and McConaughey is a shoo-in for the Golden Globe, especially with Cranston being ineligible).

I have no problem admitting that Breaking Bad was a great show. One of my favorites, in fact. But splitting its final season into two seasons was one hell of a cheat. As good as the show was, not every episode was great. And by the end of the show, the only person I thought really brought the acting chops every episode was Aaron Paul. Without him, much of the heart in each episode would be missing.
I don't really care too much about the Emmys anyway. Once you snub someone like Tatiana Maslany twice, even after she is winning practically EVERYTHING else, pretty much tells me that these awards are pretty irrelevant. Matthew MacCaunaghey acted circles around Cranston this year. Sorry. It's the truth. I know fanboys will argue. But you can't. Even based on their careers, you cannot compare each other's talent. Giving the Best Actor award to him was a joke. As far as the other categories, who really cares. I mean, it's the Emmys... I just want it on record that, yes, there will still be quality television AFTER Breaking Bad. Hell, there was quality television DURING Breaking Bad. But sometimes it's just easier to keep the fanboys happy. ![]() |

Every episode was great...splitting the seasons doesn't change anything. And are you kidding? Paul was great, but so was everyone else. Matthew did not act circles around him. LOL. Was Matthew great? Amazing? sure, maybe. But to say he acted circles around him? No. And what do you mean you can't compare each talent? Most people considered Matthew a complete joke up until a couple of years ago. He turned in a few good roles, big deal. (I'm being dramatic like you now) but Cranston turned in the television/entertainment role of a lifetime with Walter White. |

Not sure about countless. I think you pretty much named all of them, except maybe the shows on USA. Paul WAS great. But in fairness, that was the only character, other than Skylar maybe, that was written with any kinda of range the last six episodes (season 5? 6?.. who knows) So you mean Cranston had a legitimate career before his "role of a lifetime"? I wonder how many future roles will channel Walter White. I'm guessing most if not all. Plus... this award should have been for his production in the final season... six episodes... not season...12 in half... or whatever.... MacCaunaghey was amazing! Best acting job I've seen on TV... probably ever... This was his year to shine. And shine he did. You could totally hear the disappointment in the room when they announced Cranston as the winner... Don't forget... I did like this show. I just liked MacCaunagheys perfomance more than Cranston's... comparing season to season. |

Well it really goes both ways, doesn't it?
I am an unapologetic GAME OF THRONES fanboy. Without a doubt. I am obsessed with the show. And part of me winces everytime it loses an award. But.... I recognize my fanboyism. I knew Aaron Paul deserved to beat out Dinklage. He was just amazing. They both were. But I still gave the nod to Paul. Gunn, I had no problem with either. She and Paul turned in the best performances of the short season. But, in my opinion, which still counts, by the way, MacCaunaghey was the better lead actor. And if you argue with me solely because... well.... just because he's Walter White, and he's awesome!, then what can I deduce? |
