Hopefully the Blade Runner release will be an exception too. I do though hope that this is a trend from WB on their releases.

Now I see that WB is going to release the Harry Potter HD-DVD with another exclusive feature... just like they did with 300. ARG! If they really love BD that much, why do they keep giving them exclusive features?
This one sounds strange to me... you can watch the movie over the internet with other movie users and text chat while doing it.... sounds silly to me since you can just use any AIM or IM software on a computer, or even use a phone to hear their voice....
I still think the BD will sell better despite this additional extra on the HD-DVD version. It will be just like 300, twice as many sales on BD despite the extras.

Is the reason that The Matrix isn't out yet?

Actually I am hoping Matrix and V and Batman all come out after and with the new profile... I could care less about "Live" myself, but it would be so cool to add PiP, et al with these releases.
Too bad Harry Potter won't have it, but I could care less. I know no one else with a system like mine (besides you guys), and would only watch it with my wife anyways, or invite people over to my house to watch.

I'm willing to bet money on Warner not using separate encodes, comparing the back covers shows major differences in extras and the audio tracks:

Differences in extras:
* Focus Points in HD (BD exclusive)
* Set Tour in HD (BD exclusive)
* Additional scenes in HD (SD on HD DVD)
* Trailing Tonks in HD (SD on HD DVD)
* Hidden Secrets SD (BD exclusive)

Differences in audio:
* BD has 1 PCM and 12 DD5.1 tracks
* HD DVD has 1 TrueHD and 3 DD5.1 tracks

BD back cover:

HD DVD back cover:

Hopefully this lays the 'different encodes' theory to rest!

Maybe it's their payoff for having the inferior format, I'm sure it doesn't add much to the bitrate.

Me... I'd rather have none of this interactive rubbish, I would however prefer WB to use the space on a BD50 more effectively. ie. A nice high bitrate encoding to do justice to my 1080P panel.

Interactive features are for the kids to play with... perhaps explains the conduct of the somewhat unsophisticated formats fanboys .

I could do without all the interactive features as well. I just want demo quality audio and video for every movie I buy.

You did a comparison between the same title on Blu-ray and HD DVD?

Did the math

On Chamber of Secrets there are still about 5GB unaccounted for assuming the 12 DD tracks are 640k each.
