Season 2 has ropey effect's and any scene with CG has been DNR'ed but outside of that the quality is the same as the other seasons as CBS handled the scanning of the 35mm negatives, they just outsourced when it came to putting it together.

If you ever wanted to get into Trek on BD now is the time.

I found a couple of the early season 2 episodes jarring when it came to grain.

You'd have a scene, shot from two angles, which would be intercut - from one angle, no grain at all. From the other, noticeably more grain.

From memory things improved the further into the season you got, but no, not up to CBS-D standard. But at these prices....

For the first few season 2 episodes they experimented with different film stock, hence why it's grainy in some shots an then not in others. There's an extra on the first disc which makes mention of that.

CBS-D were smart in making sure that someone else got to remaster that season!

A handy reminder that I really should get around to watching all of the extras.

Of course it's all down to personal taste but as mentioned there are at least some scenes where I found the difference, in the same scene, particularly jarring. Luckily, an is collated issue

Had to order at least a couple of Star Trek seasons before the sale disappears. Going to wait and hope on a god deal on a TNG complete boxset, so ordered the first couple of seasons of the original series. Hopefully I'll be able to get the 3rd season for a decent deal, after the prices inevitably go back up...

EDIT: On second thoughts I ordered TOS S3 too. I could have easily resorted to paying as much for it alone as S1&2.

You say that, but CBS-D still did all studio/location footage for all the seasons, it's only the visual effects that were handed over to another company (for seasons 2 and 4) as that's where the bulk of the work was needed. Of course because all that was needed for the studio/location footage was to edit it all back together and didn't require time-consuming complex compositing of shots.

Do these still usually come with slipcovers?

For the recently released seasons its possible but for TOS and the earlier TNG and ENT seasons I doubt it.

TOS certainly does, but the first two seasons of TNG don't anymore, season 1 slips went out of print pretty quickly if I recall. I bought season 3 a couple of months ago and it came with one, so from there on you should be fine.

I can't say about ENT though.

I guess it depends upon whether they have sold out of the first pressings.
I bought all on original release and they all came with slip cover TOS, TNG and Enterprise.

As you say early seasons may no longer have them as all sold out and on to later pressings.

Just saw the price drops.. I only bought season 5 last night for 33 pound and thought I was getting a steal! Might just re order and return the higher priced one.. Also bought all of Enterprise and pre ordered season 7 of Next Gen. Lot of coin for me to drop but at these prices I just couldn't pass it up!

Email Amazon and ask for a refund, someone mentioned they have a price-promise but I can never find any information on it, just say you'll re-order and return it if they say no.

Thanks for the information about season two guys. It's going to be leaps and bounds above all my other viewings. Our review mentions some white-flecking, which I hate but hopefully it isn't too bad.

If the price drops within 30 days they supposedly have an unwritten stance that they'll refund you the difference if you ask them to. I've only ever questioned it twice and gotten a refund both times.

Definitely worth asking.

I think the only time I asked was when I bought the Jericho DVD box set and they told me they don't have a promise and it was my tough-luck. That was a few years back, now they're much more helpful. The US branch have it in their Terms & Conditions if I remember. As ours has a return policy were you can return items if you've found it cheaper, it's a lot easier to ask, especially if they're the ones who've lowered the price! If they price-matched it would be brilliant!

Went through Flubit, and managed to get TNG seasons 2 and 4 and Enterprise season 4 for just over £44. Bit of a bargain. Guessing chances of a slip on season 2 are slim! Boo.
