I know most of us are Sin City fanatics here, but I really don't see this movie appealing to a broad spectrum of people, especially a decade out from the original and with mediocre critical reviews. And so it would surprise me if it tops the box office this weekend.

And as I said, it's R-Rated.

If I Stay is popular with non-R-Rated audience, and come on: Chloë. I don't mean to keep harping on her (well, maybe ), but the fact is that as she said a lot of this audience has never had a chance to see her movies. Their moms weren't going to exactly take their 6 year-old daughters to see Kick Ass.

I know it sounds like I am disagreeing with you, but I'm more responding to the thread in general.

No I agree with you; the non-R movie is presumably going to beat the R-movie with content offensive to women.

An R-rating is a positive thing these days and will help the movie.

The fact that most people DO NOT want 3D and the Weinstien Company and/or the theaters chains are unfairly choosing to mostly show ONLY the 3D versions of this film is going to hurt it though

Suddenly R ratings are the savour of box office it seems but now the blame sits somewhere else with deep irony.

That explains how Rambo was able to defeat Meet the Spartans all those years ago...hang on a second...

Meanwhile, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For opened soft last night with $0.48 million. The nine-year wait for the sequel undoubtedly tempered excitement outside the fanboy crowd. By comparison, last August's Kick-Ass 2 pulled $1.3 million from Thursday 8pm shows and went on to a disappointing $13.3 million weekend. A sub-$10 million weekend for the Sin City sequel looks likely.

If I Stay is pretty much Guaranteed for #1 this week end, but if Sin City bombs as hard as I think it can (sub $10m), it might even finish below Guardians of the Galaxy, who might remain at spot #2 -IF- When the Game Stands Tall underperforms as much as it is expected to.

Yep. They've advertised the heck out of If I Stay.

For something with a built-in audience that is TERRIBLE for Sin City . It's likely doing single digits this weekend now.

That's what I'm thinking, that Sin City will clock in at somewhere in the #3-4 range for the weekend.

The Weinsteins aren't having a great year.

Vampire Academy - $3,921,742 opening weekend
Begin Again - $2,820,839 wide opening weekend
The Giver - $12,305,016 opening weekend
Sin City 2 - $8-$10M opening weekend (estimate)

Maybe Melissa McCarthy will get them a hit with St. Vincent in October. I think that looks good.

Well, at least Begin Again was a really good film.

Looks like those who voted for "other" are right, as Deadline is reporting "If I Stay" will finish 2nd or 3rd and Sin City 2 was a total bomb.

The weekend isn't over. We still have all of today and all of tomorrow. I still say If I Stay will be #1 by the end of the weekend.

Begin Again should've been a bigger hit. Surprised they didn't advertise much.

YA films are frontloaded, GotG and perhaps Turtles will overtake it.

Now the numbers are going down for Sin City, $6M-$7M for the weekend.
