Great review Geoff.

So in some scenes the black bars fade in and out?

That sounds quiet cool, rather than a jarring change in AR.

Yeah. There's still plenty of hard cuts in some scenes, but the transitions do at least show that they were aware of how jarring the effect can be. There's another one when the camera goes into the San Fran club where Scotty's at, the bars fade in just as the couple goes through the beaded doorway.

Ok. I suppose in high speed/frantic action scenes the fade in/out would be to slow, but as you say, its probably a nice effect to have when moving between main scenes.

"Spaceship porn"

Top review Geoff, appetite well and truly whetted to see this now.

Would have to agree with your overall assessment of both movies as well. Whilst a competent action flick, ITD didn't retain the nostalgic charm that the 2009 movie engendered. Hopefully that won't be similar in the third movie...

Oh, and I loved the opening Kelvin sequence in 2009 as well, one of my favourite sequences from ANY Star Trek movie right there

That's one of my favourite scenes from any movie in general. That's partly the problem with STID, the first movie was so damned good that it had a lot to live up to.

Guess it depends how you read it. I assumed you were accusing him of calling the film shit and that his comment didn't help.

Yes, perhaps I should have put 'that didn't help the sequel' at the end.

Quick question.
Would you guys recommend Movietyme over the likes of DVDWorldUSA?
Is there much difference in their service as a whole?
Delivery times, packaging etc

Edit: Just noticed they don't cover taxes, import fees etc. So what's the benefit of ordering from them as opposed to ordering straight off Amazon.com?

They're quite customs safe.

Both are customs safe as they re-ship from UK offices.

As for which is best I personally get the majority of my imports from DVDWorldUSA due to the sheer speed that they have delivered past orders, last year Man of Steel took 3 days to arrive while I have never had a Movietyme order arrive in less than 7 days.

For Star Trek The Compendium though I went with Movietyme simply because they were £10 cheaper, arrived in 8 days very well packaged but as a rule both companies tend to just use jiffy bags so rarely anything arrives pristine.

Cool thanks for that. I'll make sure to check out both before buying anything for the best price.

Actually DVDWorldUSA now have it at £29.99. Might go with them if they're faster

They will want £4.95 for delivery on top whereas it's £26.99 delivered at Movietyme.
