Then I guess you're like the fans who bought the Highlander TV series on blu-ray, not really caring about the condition of the episodes as long as it's scaled to hi-def.

My Blu-Ray copy of The Legend of Korra Book 2 plays the episodes in 1080p. The only video that is in 1080i is the Retelling of Korra's Journey bonus feature. Does the fact that I play it on my PS3 have something to do with it?

That's a good question. I remembered a time when my PS3 would natively play 1080i and outputs as 1080i. But then after some firmware updates, it outputs as 1080p no matter what (deinterlaced obviously). And that's with my output settings left untouched throughout (all resolutions ticked - from 720p, 1080i and p).

It'd still definitely be nice if we get native progressive encoding for Korra.

Season four is the last of this particular series, but there's always the chance of seeing another series following the next Avatar eighty or so years down the line.

after the amount of money Nick lost on this series and the whole fiasco it went through i am doubtful we will see another series any time soon. Piracy may have destroyed this franchise

Not really. For one, even though I used to like Highlander I never bought those sets. Admittedly, I haven't seen the show in years and don't remember it as well... but those sets were ridiculously over-priced and basically VHS source quality on Blu-ray and interlaced with poor compression. So, no, I wouldn't go so far as to say that.

I was suggesting that a properly upscaled Blu-ray released with better color and less compression artifacts would be benefical. And there would be the benefit of lossless audio. This has been done on some releases effectively. Given that the show was animated in a format that doesn't make it possible that native HD presentations can be made, this is the best one could hope for. That's not the same thing as supporting over-priced Blu-ray releases which should never have happened given the materials being used are that horrible (re: Highlander).

By fiasco, are you referring to Nick moving to purely online distribution of the show and taking it off the air halfway through season 3?

And why has piracy destroyed the franchise? Is it not more to do with Nicks poor approach to marketing the show, or maybe Nick not really being a good home for the show in the first place? (I'm remember having similar feelings about Invader Zim being on Nick years ago).

Yeah I have to say that the blame lies mostly on Nick's shoulders for not marketing / advertising it properly.

I never watched Avatar back when it was airing (shame on me) but I've read about the poor treatment it received towards the end. To be honest I'm surprised they even aired Legend of Korra in the first place, let alone renewed it for three more seasons.

If Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko ever do another Avatar series, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't shop it around to another network, or else just distribute the new episodes online or sell them direct-to-DVD/Blu. Considering the AWFUL treatment of the last two seasons of Korra, I can't imagine them ever wanting to work with Nickelodeon again, considering how they killed the goose that was laying the golden eggs.

Well, there's not much we can do about the franchise's future. All we can do is enjoy what we have left of Bryke's baby, and so far into Book 4 online, it's itching close towards a winning finish.

BD reviews for shows like this in advance is strangely uncommon. You'll just have to look into the forums during release date to know the nitty-gritty details.

This is currently down to $19.99 on Amazon. Great price, I'd pre-order it now if you haven't already to lock that in in case it goes up again. It comes out on Tuesday.

At least Nick is being upfront about it this time.

I checked the back of the cover for Book 3. Boy, them extras are gettin' fewer and fewer per Book: only 9 out of the 13 episodes have commentaries, and it no longer has scene animatics. It's scraping the bottom of the barrel, it eems.

Totally do not get these Asian cartoons or their cult like following. I've watched a few minutes of various ones and found nothing compelling about them.

Anyone want to enlighten me?

Depends on what you're referring to. This series, or anime in general? And what episodes?
