If you look at the Elite transfer, there's a lot of vignetting in the uncropped full-frame, fo my guess is Dimension zoomed their transfer in to crop out the vignetting. Regarding the aspect ratio, I know that Romero prefers 1.37:1 and wouldn't want the film cropped/matted any wider than 1.66:1. No doubt it was projected at 1.85:1 back in 1968 since that was the "standard" 35mm aspect ratio at the time, but Romero and company have said they were inexperienced makers of television commercials at the time and never really framed it properly for 1.85.

The best version of Romero's NOTLD is Happinet's release (Japan)
The best version of Savini's NOTLD is Umbrella's release (Australia) Both region free. Both the best these films are going to look. Both have pretty good special features. I don't know why people don't import. |
