Can we stop with the MJ insults, please? I get it, the man did eccentric things, but he died 8 years ago.

yes, and comments like the one above yours from Knocks (reposting hack journalism, apparently gloating about something we all care about).

Looking back to the original post, I think this was far from confirmed to begin with. It sounds like Landis just floated the idea out there after winning his legal dispute. There might've been a small window of time where it made a certain amount sense to do this, but it's hard to see it being financially viable.

Too bad, because aside from other considerations, the music video, like a lot of classic music videos could badly do with being remastered.

What does a 4K/3D conversion cost? For such a short "film" as this I can't imagine it'd be more than $3-5 million at the very most. Then with the proper hype and push behind its re-release, it could probably make somewhere in the $7-10 million from a theatrical release in the fall as well as from Bluray and DVD sales.

Of course, I'm basing my numbers on other full length films and adjusting the numbers accordingly, but you never know. If they do it right, I definitely see them making money on this in the long run. It would be wise to get James Cameron's team to do the restoration and conversion. They seem to be the best at the moment.

Really though, my main concern is a 4K restoration. I don't care at all about 3D, at least not for home release. It'd be cool though to see it on an XD screen though.

According to the NY Daily News, Thriller 3D is coming out this summer. Not sure what to make of this since it's listed under 'CONFIDENTIAL' and it's based on 'insider information'. But the writer of the article does seem confident.

'Thriller 3D' will resurrect Michael Jackson this summer

Michael Jackson will be scaring fans from beyond the grave later this summer with a reworked release of his iconic music video “Thriller” in 3D.

Director John Landis, who shot "Thriller" in 1982 with “The King of Pop,” will oversee the project, according to industry sources.

We’re told that for three years, Landis has been secretly re-working the iconic 14-minute music video, which was a groundbreaking piece of music history.

Sources say that Michael's son Prince and daughter Paris have been involved in the project, but details are being kept under wraps.

“Thriller is coming out again in movie form this summer and it will be something very special,” we're told. “John took the original footage, cleaned it up and has made it into something very unique.”

Our insider says Jacko, who died in 2009 and would’ve turned 59 in August, would have likely been pleased with this project.

“Michael’s vision before his death was to bring ‘Thriller’ to movie theaters and use IMAX and 3D technology to make fans feel they are in the video with him,” we're told. “There is a marketing plan in place to launch the new version with a huge PR drive with (Jackson’s children) Prince and Paris involved.”

We also hear that Prince, a filmmaking enthusiast, has expressed particular interest in this project. Our sources also say that fans are in for a double-feature.

“As part of the celebration relaunch, a new documentary exploring the incredible story behind the movie’s creation will be released,” we're told.

Landis joined the project after actually being caught up in a bitter legal war over the original “Thriller” after Michael’s passing. That beef has apparently been buried.

The movie release marks the 35th anniversary of the “Thriller” album launch.

Shortly after Jackson died, the “Thriller” video was inducted into the National Film Registry by the Library Of Congress. No other music video had been given that honor.

Haha John Landis had beef with the Jackson estate for 3 years, but with Thriller's 35th anniversary approaching quickly, the greed won out, and we'll finally be getting Thriller in 1080p (as well as this funny feature called 3D).

Thriller 4K on track for the 45th anniversary?

Nice to see an update nearly 3 years later. Here's hoping we get it in time for Halloween?

Always thrilling to see a project we'd just about given up on come back from the dead!

"This Is It" only has a couple of brief segments of the concert in 3D, but the 3D is pure excellence!

So, Thriller 3D...

It it coming to theaters or 3D BD?

Since most of the runtime would documentary, it seems a better fit for home.

A remastered CD & 3D BD collectors set would make the most sense.

I'd love to see the Making Of Thriller and the music video itself just get a proper Blu-ray release. No need for 3D...

I really hope that the Making of Thriller will be included. I remember watching the Making of over and over on VHS as I was fascinated of how the makeup effects were done. Is it true that the Making of Thriller never got a DVD release?

I believe there is a unofficial DVD around.

I would expect to see the documentary included on this release, even if only in SD.

If they're remastering the 1982 video in 3D for release, wouldn't it make sense to include the completed THIS IS IT version as well? My understanding is that they had made a totally new version of THRILLER in IMAX 3D for that concert -- no sense in just sitting on that footage forever, right?

I have this strange deja vu feeling that the blu ray will be forgotten again this year. Its been rumoured every year since 2014, if youre not going to release it again this year, they better have a good explanation.

I think the beginning of that version had about five minutes of 3D then break to the live show.
