Default Hiroshi Koizumi Passes Away at 88.

Hiroshio Koizumi died yesterday of pneumonia. The 88 year old actor was an icon and one of the most recognizable faces during the Golden Age of daikiaju eiga in the 1960s.

We've lost many people associated with the franchise over the last couple years. Riichiro Manabe (he scored Godzilla vs. Hedorah and Godzilla vs. Megalon and was the last surviving Showa composer) passed away February this year, Koichi Kawakita (special effects director of Godzilla vs. Biollante through Godzilla vs. Destoroyah) passed away December last year and Anna Nakagawa (actress who played Emmy Kano in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah) passed away October last year.

On a lighter note, Google is paying tribute to Eiji Tsuburaya today, on his 114th birthday. Pretty cool.

The classic / infamous tail-slide drop-kick!

My favorites are the tail slam (Godzilla lifting an opponent by their tail and then slamming them down) and a good old-fashioned tail roundhouse (which I was happy to see used to great effect in G'14).

'Godzilla-Anime.com' Domain Name Registered Under Toho

Quote:
TOHO Ad Co., Ltd is listed as the registrant on a "Godzilla-Anime.com" domain name. The domain name was registered on August 2.

TOHO's newest Godzilla film, Godzilla: Resurgence (Shin Godzilla), opened in Japan on July 29, and Funimation plans to release the film in theaters in late 2016. TOHO released the first film in the franchise in 1954, and since the opening of Godzilla: Resurgence, TOHO's live-action Godzilla franchise of 29 films has collectively sold over 100 million tickets in Japan. American films about Godzilla opened in 1998 and 2014.

The franchise inspired two western animated series: one from Hanna-Barbera in 1978 and one that served as a follow-up to the 1998 film. The Godzilla character first appeared in a Japanese television anime on July 22 in a crossover with Crayon Shin-chan.

Thanks to Liam for the news tip.
Very interesting. I've always found it a little strange that, with Godzilla being a Japanese franchise that's been around ever since the '50s, there's never been an attempt at a Godzilla anime in all that time. Could be cool to see one if done well (which really goes without saying).

Just saw that the Comet channel on TV is having a Godzilla marathon today. Right now they are showing Godzilla raids again.

Godzilla, in the classic style of a guy in a monster suit, I voted for Godzilla vs King Kong as very entertaining and memorable because of its flaws. The end fight especially is very memorable. But so are many of the giant monster fights Godzilla endures. It's tough to pick just one.

I did enjoy Godzilla 2014 for the things it does right, and look forward to Shin Godzilla and Godzilla 2018.

Godzilla 2014 is the clear winner!

Guess most of the voters haven't seen any other movies than the two US versions.

I saw, very sad news. May he rest in peace.

As mentioned in the blog post you linked to, directing Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla wasn't his only contribution to the franchise as he was also chief assistant director on Terror of Mechagodzilla.

The original isn't far behind at 10 votes though, which also puts it far ahead of the '98 film. I expected the '54 and '14 movies to get the most votes, with the former being the most highly regarded while the latter is a recent big-budget Hollywood production.

So this is what we should have gotten in 1998.

And the monster he would have fought...
