I could imagine that the logic in holding back Bolt, Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons and G-Force (all of which are supposed to be coming in 2011 but have yet to have a dated announcement) til the second half of the year would be to allow more time to sell through the already released 2D versions of these titles - - - but if I was calling the shots at Disney, I'd have released them during the first half of the year while there's still a real lack of 3D content - - - since they certainly won't sell as well as Pirates, Lion King, etc.

Does anyone at Blu-ray.com have the ear of a publicist at Disney to find out what the plan is for the remainder of 2011? This "15 or more Blu-ray 3D's in 2011" press release from back in January was all over the internet, so if they don't come through it would seem like an awful lot of egg to have to wipe off of Disney's collective face... But 12 releases over the next 6 months is a lot of product to release (and is anything coming this month? We're probably only looking at a 5 month window for all of this stuff...).

Maybe a 3D box set of the lesser known / lower-profile titles is in the works for a single release?

Here's the site's Cars 2 Blu-ray 3D release page:
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Cars-2-3D-Blu-ray/25785/

- So we're still at 9 releases for the year. Here are the leading contenders for further 2011 releases:

Announced in the Press Release:
10. Bolt
11. Chicken Little
12. Meet the Robinsons
13. G-Force

And...?
14. Toy Story
15. Toy Story 2
16. Toy Story 3
- or (ideally) a Toy Story 3D box set?
17. Up 3D

Out Now:
1. Tron: Legacy
2. Tangled
3. Gnomeo and Juliet

Announced and Dated:
4. Mars Needs Moms

10. Bolt

11. Chicken Little
12. Meet the Robinsons
13. G-Force

Likely:
14. Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World

And...
15. ?

Looks like there is still a chance we are going to get one other Pixar title for the Christmas season.

I suppose the press release was targeted at US retailers - - there was an ad that specified Bolt as coming in 2011 even though it was available elsewhere in the world. I believe the first post of this thread still has art & logos clipped from the trade ad:

I'm hoping the Toy Story 3D Trilogy comes out for Christmas. Don't forget, Disney said that it would be at least 15 titles this year, meaning we shouldn't rule out all three Toy Story's and Up just because some of the numbers don't add up.

However the evidence isn't overwhelming, it is promising though! With the HDRoom article and the release date for the Netherlands it does look like this may be released with Cars 2. Whatever happens the UK better get a release too! The Lion King Trilogy (with the 3DBD!!) is coming out in the UK on Halloween!

Also, I'd imagine Disney would release Finding Nemo 2DBD with Brave next year followed by a 3DBD a few months down the line, so it looks like we wont be seeing Finding Nemo in 3D for at least 2 years, which is upsetting, but maybe in the meantime they will get on with releasing all the other PIXAR's. Hey I hope I'm wrong, you know, I'm hoping next Christmas we will get a 3DBD of Finding Nemo same day as the 2D, although with Disney, I wouldn't hold my breath, they're gonna squeeze every last penny they can get out of us. Wouldn't put it passed them to start locking the PIXAR's away in their stupid bloody vault of the damned (which is obviously just a way for them to make more money and not for all the other pathetic reasons they state!)

Also, I must add, I am completely fed up with this overflow of discs. I remember when Blu-ray first started, and it was like 'the movie and extras all on one disc' and now you get one movie, on five discs. Back in the old days even two discs seemed excessive, but all this Digital Copy, DVD crap they keep pushing on us is really getting on my nerves. They don't need to put 3D and 2D on separate discs, yet they do, to add to the perceived value, and then there's the DVD and Digital Copy, which is superflous and I never use (and could both be confined to one disc rather than two). And then there's the Cars Director's Set. 11 discs for 2 movies!?!?! Just so they can charge ridiculous prices and justify themselves for it! I mean, come on, why can't we just have a simple 3DBD with perhaps a second disc of extras, I've already got three copies of Toy Story on DVD, I don't need another one, Disney!!!

Anyway, sorry for deviating a little, Toy Story rocks! First day buy (no matter what it costs or how many dozens of discs they have to package in with it!)

Have they even announced a 3D version of Nemo? I don't think they have. Could be one of many Pixars (along with Incredibles, Bug's life, Ratatouille, WALL-E, etc.) with just a 2D release. Still looking forward to the blu-ray, though.

With the exception of a few movies they've redone in 3D, disney really doesn't spur on the "double-dip" need; when re-releases happen, they are usually the same transfer (mainly because they tend to get it right the first time!), and most releases come out as multiple purchase options simultaneously (see Tron, Tangled, Lion King).

I think that would be dependent on the details of the acquisition deal with Pixar, and not subject to their marketing whims:

They press them separately because they master them separately! They are one of the few studios that provide individual transfers for the 2d & 3d versions of the film, and IMO this improves the PQ for each viewing. Personally, I would like to see more companies do this. For that matter, it probably didn't hurt that they put all the Pirates of the Caribbean bonus material on separate discs, leaving plenty of room for the main feature all by its lonesome!
