Hugo is live action not animation.

To avoid starting duplicate threads, I recommend using the search engine. Just remember to search thread titles, not entire posts, and you'll easily be able to find what you are looking for.

As for strongest animated 3D, it's going to be nWave or DreamWorks that run away with that award... A Turtles Tale, Thunder and the House of Magic, Madagascar 3, The Boss Baby etc etc

Pixar and Disney nowhere to be seen, pretty tragic in a discussion around animated films...

Strongly recommend Mr Peabody & Sherman.

Strong 3D
Great surround sound
Good movie

If you haven't seen it in 3D you're missing out. One of my favourites.

Disney's Tangled should be here. The lanterns coming out of the screen on the menu screen at beginning is a notable example. Still is my #1 pick for a 3D family show off disc. Full screen, colorful, excellent 3D, attention holding story line = winner for me.

As far as Disney 3D movies go, I agree that Tangled has the best 3D.

When talking about menu’s, the 3D menu for Gnome Alone is incredible. Problem is nothing in the movie looks as good lol.

I still have to watch that one, but nothing I have read has made me want to move it up to the top of my "to watch" pile...

I think A Turtle's Tale: Sammy's Adventures is still the best and hasn't yet been surpassed by nWave's newer films. Its 3D will make you giggle like a little kid.

Can't disagree with that. As far as I am concerned, no 3D animated film before or since has stronger 3D, or even 3D that is as well integrated into the storytelling.

A guilty pleasure of mine though that doesn't get a lot of love is Resident Evil: Damnation. The subject matter makes a nice change from talking animals and fairytales, and it makes good use of pop-outs.

Imo the best Resident Evil 3DBD. Enjoyed this much more than the live action films. Wasn’t cheap but was worth it

I also enjoy the pop outs in RE- Damnation!
Although I have seen it in a while, I remember Open Season having great 3D

It's been years since I watched it but Open Season does have great 3D. I wish all the sequels (and I've seen more of them than I'd care to admit) were also in 3D.

Me too. I think I’ll give Open Season another watch in 3D after work tonight.

2006's CGI animated bear adventure, OPEN SEASON 3D has consistently strong 3D throughout, and on par with NWave's Thunder and the House of Magic (Thunder actually being one of NWave's medium to strong 3D films compared to Sammy's consistently strong to very strong 3D).
Open Season's 3D was ahead of its time, back when CGI animated films really understood the purpose of 3D being stronger and exciting to watch, before Pixar's UP with its mostly mild 3D storytelling style influenced way too many 3D animated films.

While I'm a fan of the 2007 Beowulf CGI animated 3D film, the 3D shines when it's an action scene or for the numerous strong 3D pop outs. Unfortunately they use 3D storytelling from that 2007 film, and there are a number of dialog scenes with mild 3D. Thankfully it amps up to medium to sometimes stronger 3D during action and looks great then.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 3D actually won an Academy Oscar Award for that year in animated films, which was great as a fan of the film, but the 3D is a mixture of mostly mild 3D, then some medium to high medium, stronger 3D during some action. It still looks good overall but it could've pushed things a lot more in general for the 3D. I doubt the sequel will push the 3D to the next level.

But yes, Madagascar 3 3D is on par with NWave's consistently strong 3D most times, and was Dreamwork's shining example of strong 3D, which I don't believe they've matched since, though I haven't seen Penguins 3D yet.

Yeah, as much as I enjoyed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, I certainly wouldn't give it an award for its use of 3D. It of course makes for a superior viewing experience when compared to the 2D version, but that's about all I can say about it.

100% agree! Watched it last night. Open Season has strong 3D like nWave.
