Not my favorite Paul Thomas Anderson film the soft spoken narration really took me out of it for some odd reason and I felt like most of the characters felt like characters who belong in Wes Anderson films. Maybe I'll need to rewatch.

To be honest, the only other Anderson movie i have seen is There Will Be Blood, and I thought that was worse than Vice. I think my biggest problems with both movies is that the main character learns nothing and is the same in the end he was in the beginning. Anderson's movies just aren't for me apparently.

Jumping to that conclusion after seeing two of his films is a bit premature I'd say. Especially since both of those films are outliers in his filmography in that they sprung from novels (one of which is probably the most divisive film of his career). At least give Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Punch-Drunk Love a go before you give up on Paul Thomas Anderson. They're all different in tone and style than Blood or Vice. I also love his debut, Hard Eight, more than most and I find that people who don't like his later films seem to dig that one, possibly because of its leaner (less self-indulgent?) narrative.
I'd also argue that Doc is not the same as he was in the beginning. Last edited by ThePhantom; 01-14-2015 at 04:12 PM. |

Someone in another thread posted that PTA's films are fine enough but can't shake feeling like a cover-act, and that's another sentiment I'd have to agree with. Inherent Vice's particular antecedents are far more worth your time, and this picture rests comfortably at the nadir of his output for me. |

This was one of my favorites of 2014. I can sort of understand the issues some viewers had, but I felt it was a sad movie about loss.
Whatever the case, I'm glad we have films out in 2014 that can make us talk and debate and critique, instead of sequels and sure-bet remakes. Can't wait for the Blu!! |

I've seen this movie 6 times at this point and I can't wait for the blu-ray just for all the extras. Can't wait to see all the deleted scenes that you can see in the trailers. Really hope we see more extras than we did for There Will Be Blood and The Master.

This is supposed to be available on iTunes (and presumably other digital platforms) this Tuesday, 2/17. That's over 2 months before the Blu? Never seen that before.
The Blu-ray listing here indicates that there's an iTunes DC included with this release. I assume that's a misprint since WB went UV only a long time ago. |
