The time regression effect on Michael Douglas, very convincing. That is the kind of realism in expression and movement that needed to be in Tron Legacy's Flynn/Clu character's face. I'm thinking they took Douglas' real face and motions and then reworked it by adding digital masking on top of his real face, kind of like how they made Chris Evans look thin and short in Captain America.

Real D at Cinemark looked fine. It all boils down to the projectors if any theater had an issue with the 3D or a dim screen.

The flashbacks to Michael Douglas' Ant Man were effective also.

I will say, I thought there would have been more people there, our theater was nearly empty.

I really dug the new Batman vs Superman trailer, they didn't show it in 3D but it was still pretty good. Same with the new Star Wars not shown in 3D but the movie looks freakin' great.

The 3D trailers were some rehashes already talked about in previous threads but one new one, at least for me, was called The Finest Hour or something. It's a Coast Guard boat rescue movie but the 3D looked pretty good.

Big thumbs up for Ant Man.
Ant Man is a tougher sell, as it's a matter of people wanting to go see a movie about a tiny guy working with ants to battle evil. The type of humor of in Ant Man was well chosen IMO considering the comical super hero theme.

Previews I saw:
Everest 3D (strong 3D trailer)
Finest Hour 3D (mostly medium 3D)
Star Wars 3D (strong 3D)

The reviewers theater must have had bad setting for the 3D. He did say it was dark and the way to see the 3D was to see it IMAX.
Thanks again! Excited again!

I'll be seeing this in IMAX, so I don't think I'll have a brightness issue. Fast moving images have never bothered me, so I think I'll be fine.
Enjoy the 3D.
The Cinemablend review wasn't too harsh and did mention a good number of positive observations about the 3D in Ant Man.

Saw it this afternoon at my local AMC. Loved it! Great cast and just plain fun. As another poster mentioned, this is one of Marvel's finest 3D conversions to date. The scene where Lang shrinks for the first time inside the bath tub was breathtaking. Great sense of depth in all of the ant-sized scenes.

I also got a free 11x17 poster from AMC, which I was not expecting. Nice bonus!

I would have liked more pop outs, but the stronger 3D layering makes up for it really well.

Finally saw it today. Cool movie with great 3D ,lots of fun too. The only real problem I had was it had a lot of dialog to go thru.

On the down side, they didn't show any 3D trailers. They had Everest, Star Wars, and Finest Hour but all were 2D.

Saw it in IMAX today. This is definitely the best 3-D film Marvel has ever done and very entertaining. Better storytelling than Ultron.

As far as 3-D conversions go, it's about on par with San Andreas. Strong depth, but not too many popouts. It still doesn't top Spongebob's conversion, but most films don't so I won't hold that against it. That being said, there were some "pop-up book" moments in the film that are typical of 3D conversions, but they were far and few between.

This is definitely a film that should be seen in 3-D.

I thought that the 3d in this movie was pretty good. Seeing the 3d trailer at the Jurassic world showing convinced me to see the movie in 3d. All the different parts from gong small to big and back to small again seemed to work very well in 3d. Over all I thought it was a pretty good movie and enjoyable to watch.

True that it didn't start with a big action scene to immediately grab our attention, and instead built up slowly to develop the character.

San Andreas was well done, agreed.
And I agree, the story was well told this time with great 3D (half strong/half medium 3D layering in the movie in my view).

Yeah, the 3D trailer was strong. Definitely got me into the theater.

If Ant Man wasn't offered in 3D, I would have seen it, but probably not as eagerly.

Saw this in IMAX 3D the other night. Loved every second of it!

I'd say the scene with
[Show spoiler]Scott riding the ants like a raft when they had to break into the building. The 3D made me feel like I was riding a roller coaster. The fight in Cassie's room was awesome too, especially after a huge Thomas the Train Engine gets thrown out of the roof. The new 'dog' was funny.

Badass movie and will be buying the 3D BD when it comes out! Hoping for a steelbook or an awesome gift set type thing.

Just saw this. Fun movie and the 3D was very good. I would say 4/5 stars. This movie has great 3D imo it was better than Avenger Age of Ultron and Jurassic World. The depth was very good in this one. The scene where he shrinks the first time in the tub was just stunning 3D. You almost felt like you were shrinking with him. What a roler coaster. And when Ants where flying and Scott was on the Ant Anthony many times throughout the movie we saw some really good pop out scenes as well where ants and swarms will be coming out of the screen. There was some really cool fight shots at the end too with some nice pop outs.

This was a very good 3D movie that utilized depth and pop outs. The way a 3D movie should be. Definitely looking forward to picking this one up on 3D Blu-Ray

I liked it better than Avengers, which I was actually disappointed with, but got to say, I enjoyed Jurassic World more. But AnT Man was a very solid movie and I look forward to buying it.

Yeah, Ant Man 3D and Jurassic World 3D, two must haves for me.

The 3D in Avengers 2 was consistently medium 3D layers most of the way, though I never really noticed much strong 3D as we saw in the last 40 minutes of Avengers 1 3D. Overall though it's an improvement over much of the mild 3D dialog shots in Avengers 3D 1. I'd have to watch it again at home to be sure, as I was leaning back too far in the theater that day and only when I sat upright did I notice a decent improvement in the 3D aligning with the glasses. Big lesson for me that day; sit upright for the best 3D.

<rant>
gotta say, i am not a fan of the 3d cover art that's been posted..ESPECIALLY the huge quote, and the bad photoshopping of paul rudd's head onto what appears to be an illustration. you couldn't find an actual good press-shot type photo of him actually in the suit, after all the work that went into it? now, maybe if it were lenticular, but we know disney doesn't really do that anymore for marvel films :\

but, an ssd for the best buy steelbook, huh? now that's much nicer..too bad the front doesn't appear to match him breaking through on the inside, that would've been nifty

That doesn't even look like a Marvel cover. No border or anything. I hope they change it.

If it looks cool in lenticular 3D, that will be okay, but I agree, put his mask on at least for the hero look. I really like the poster art of Ant Man but they almost never use the poster art for the home releases. This is one of my favorite 3D movies so far this year.
