Nope. Despite occasionally indulging in the fantasy of being in a rock band I've never picked up an instrument. (Okay, I've picked one up, but never learned to play. ) My artistic pursuits are with the pencil and the keyboard.

I think it was in 2005 that I checked out Back to Black from my local library. I wanted to expand my musical tastes and see what the hullabaloo was about. From there I fell in love.

Were you really surprised when Amy died?

I'm not saying it wasn't tragic (and I can't say I was a fan) but to me there was a certain inevitability about it

It was really sad news. Rumors were that a third album was in the works and, though I wasn't deeply familiar with her health situation at the time, I was under the impression she'd gotten that under control--contrary to the snarky comments made after her death she had been to rehab* and alcohol poisoning got her in the end, not hard drugs. It wasn't a totally unexpected turn of events, but also not inevitable. Part of what made it so tragic was how she had the ability to prevent it.


*There's reason to believe rehab isn't as effective as it's generally thought to be, but that's another subject entirely.

As for writing, I've got my reviews posted on this very site. Perhaps it's not art, but I think I'm good at it. Like I've said earlier, I always appreciate criticism (and upvotes). I've been planning on starting a site for movie reviews (and possibly blogging about other subjects), though with the glut of review sites out there I imagine it would be hard to set myself apart.

I enjoyed watching the CJ Entertainment releases too. Unfortunately I haven't been able to afford getting them each time one comes out so I've been out of the loop. Just recently sold my special edition copy of Memories of Murder (and immediately ordered the regular edition ). Been holding onto the other special editions until I can get a good return on my investment, though I'll keep some of my favorites.

That doesn't mean I haven't been watching my share of Korean flicks. The last week of December I binge watched a bunch (plus the Japanese film A Strange Circus). I saw A Company Man (good film with great action and subtle satire), New World (another great gangster film), Confession of Murder (an entertaining mess), Commitment (competently made, but by-the-numbers), and Moebius (a wild psychodrama with emphasis on 'psycho').

Though I haven't posted any reviews for some years, I haven't stopped writing them. Because of the website idea I mentioned earlier, I've been saving them for later. Check your PM's for the review I wrote of Confession of Murder. Edit: it appears that it's so long that blu-ray.com won't allow me to PM it so I'll just attach it here so everyone can read if they want:

It's a first draft. Before finalizing a review I rewatch parts of the film to make sure I have names correct and have remembered specific scenes correctly. If there are any errors, whether factual or grammatical, let me know along with any other criticisms you have.

I haven't seen Kundo: Age of the Rampant, but it's been on my watchlist for awhile. Is it especially good?

Thank you. I've been drawing cartoons since I was a little tyke. These particular cartoons, though, were drawn three or four years ago. Another thing I need to start doing again.

The Return of the King as not only was it the best of the novels, but the film included the best part of The Two Towers book, Shelob. Been years since I've seen them, though. May not feel the same way were I to see them today.

Depended on which year. Sometimes I liked it. My last year of high school was one of the best as I had few required courses left and therefore could take many art classes and other fun subjects.
