Why??? What's next Uwe Boll to remake Casablanca? Look at remakes of 'Get Carter', 'The Ladykillers', and other marvellous remake flops we thank God we can't remember.
Not knocking Fincher. He is a great director but there are plenty of interesting 'new' projects he could do justice to. Strange.

You just compared Fincher to Boll. Please excuse yourself from humanity.

Don't upset the Uwe Boll Appreciation Society: They're a small, but 'armed' group.

You do realize that some of the greatest directors have made remakes and that some of the greatest movies ever are remakes? This will be great. The track record is there.

Yes, obviously you're going to get a completely representative sample in a thread titled Worst Remake Ever?

House of Cards wasn't original, it was a remake of the BBC series.

Doh, you might very well think I'm an idiot.

I couldn't possibly comment.

This has already been unoffically remade in Italy in 1971 as The Designated Victim and while the plot stuck close to the original, the feel of the film was totally different and quite interesting in its own right.
Don't forget Throw momma from the train.

Saw it again the other week. Classic. "One little murder and suddenly I'm Jack the Ripper!"

I haven't forgotten it, but it's a comedy and really more of a variation which just keeps the central premise while The Designated Victim sticks close enough to the Hitchcock film and the Highsmith novel that it can be considered a proper remake (at least as much as the proposed Fincher version from reading about it). It does put a new spin on the material by setting in in Italy, it has a 70s giallo vibe to it and it ups the homoerotic subtext inherent in the material (and inherent in a lot of Patricia Highsmith's writing).

I also thought I'd bring it up because everybody knows Throw Mommma From the Train while nobody here seems to have heard of The Designated Victim, which was proof that you can successfully remake Strangers on a Train without copying it. It's a great premise which allows for different interpretations which don't necessarily take away from the Hitchcock classic.

Like the original a lot. It works as an old movie, but I feel the plot is too contrived to work in 2015/16. Guessing for Fincher in full Panic Room mode.

I can't say I'm a fan of the original so I'll be keeping this on my radar.

Meh, I have the Swedish Triology on Blu-Ray, I'm good.

I was pleasantly suprised by the American remake, it was actually pretty good.

I've seen the original a couple times over the years and I think it's good Hitchcock, but no classic like Vertigo or Psycho. I'll definitely see this since Fincher's directing, but I'd rather see The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo sequels.
