This is the future people. And it sucks.

But it's impossible to blame Fox. Just look at the ownership numbers on this site of Season One compared to Season Six:

Season One is in 1,279 collections. Season Six is in just 348 collections.

I realize this board does not represent the Blu-ray buying universe but it's probably a general indicator of trends.
349, I got around to getting S6 a couple of days ago.

Damned shame about them pulling the S7 Blu but what can you do? Fox have been cool on TV BDs for a while now, I'm amazed Archer lasted this long.

I can't even buy the downloads because I'm not American. My only source of Archer was the Blu-rays. I'm just amazed all major tech-companies didn't make sure to kill off DVD over a decade ago. How will they even get 4K going if they still give people DVD's?

While they want to push new technology, it's not necessarily because they want to sell the movies. It's also because they want to sell you the new fancy hardware.

At the same time, if a large enough percentage of people are still fine with the old stuff, it won't die off that quick. DVD's now especially are cheaper to author and produce I'd imagine than Blu-ray sets, and as the numbers have shown, Archer sold lost season much better on DVD than blu.

HOWEVER...

I could never even find the last season on Blu-ray in the store as a result of their seemingly last minute decision to actually put it on that format... so Fox shot themselves in the foot because most retailers didn't order it. I had to go to Amazon.

Exactly why I'm getting the DVD. And, to paraphrase Archer, streaming/VOD can eat a buffet of dicks.

Pity Fox don't put this stuff out on Blu MOD, but even that seems like too much of a hassle for them. Just so's they know, I'd rather have a burned HD disc than no HD disc at all.

Just finished S6, man that was so much fun. And, as much as this will wound my Blu-ray-buying brothers and sisters, I'll be buying the DVD of S7 next month. It's not that I don't want to join the cause...I do, but I don't, so I'll be crossing the picket line and I just hope the blu-ray.com teamsters aren't out in force to kick the crap out of me when I do.

If you try doing that you will be venturing into a zone of danger.

Fox and Paramount has to be the worst for TV seasons on blu-ray. So many incomplete series on blu-ray because of these 2 companies.

Terrible, terrible decision to not release s7 on blu.

I know of at least 5 other people who have collected every season of Archer on blu-ray so far. Personally I'm just going to stop buying Archer at all from this point out, as there's no way in hell I'm buying on dvd. No big deal, I'll just stream them on netflix, hulu, etc ...

Thanks Fox, you just saved me money.

Its Season 7 that they are not releasing on blu-ray. Season 6 is already on blu-ray.

While season 6 may not have sold as well as prior seasons, it also doesn't help that some stores only sold the DVD.
Also, lots of people buy cheap DVDs on black Friday. This could be why more have the DVD over the Blu-ray

Caught S5 and S6 at my $10 price point on Amazon the past few days. Now I read no more BD...I'm ready to never buy individual seasons of TV again, at least until the show finishes and I can be sure they don't screw me.

Yeah, guess I'll be selling seasons 1-6. Incredibly irritating.

Did Season 6 actually have a slipcover? The database says it did but I haven’t seen any pictures of one.

Yes, mine has one. It's a tri-fold with different artwork, click on the "slip" link under the cover picture in the database listing.

Never. Fox stopped making the seasons for Blu-ray after 6. There was supposed to be one for season 7, but they cancelled it.

Though with their own MOD service, you think Fox would take a page from Warner and Universal and release Blu-ray versions of TV shows exclusively on Amazon (and factory-pressed).

Disney's back catalog history is even worse than Fox so very unlikely sadly...
