This was posted to the Scream Factory Facebook page almost one week ago but I missed it.

Looks like they have a reversible slip based on modified poster art.

Here's an early look at Scream Factory's release of The Legacy.

Unfortunately, even though SF states this comes from a new high-definition transfer it appears to be from a less than pristine source since it still suffers from dirt, scratches, and debris along with what appears to be the standard compression issues and DNR.

Here are some examples of the compression issues/DNR that plague this release:

It's a shame, as both this and The Sentinel appear to have very poor compression.

I came across this question and Scream's response on their Facebook page today. I wonder what their definition of "crisp" is.

Now, I'm truly curious how the Japanese release compares to this one.

They could have used the Japanese blu as a source. I have the Japanese blu and it looks pretty good, especially for a cheap disc.

I watched my Scream Factory Blu-ray of The Legacy last night, and I am going through the extras this morning.

The Legacy is such a fun movie, and it's one of those releases of long-lost movies that I always look forward to seeing on the Scream Factory queue.

Now that I have a bigger television, and a 4K television at that, I'm more receptive to transfer flaws that I used to overlook on my old 32" television, but I was still impressed at the picture quality on this disc. There's a lot of print damage and imperfection during the opening credits sequence, but look of the film falls into a better groove after that and everything is pleasing in an overall sense.

Katharine Ross is quite gorgeous in this film, and, if for nothing else, it's a watchable endeavor simply because we get to look at her for almost two hours. Sam Elliott is a trip to watch, as always, and one can sense the undeniable chemistry between him and Ross. After all, they met on this film set, and they are still married.

Roger Daltrey is perfect for his role, and I chuckled quite a few times during his scenes. Charles Grey, whom we all know and love as the villain in Diamonds are Forever, gets in some key moments as well.

This movie comes across like a combination of House on Haunted Hill and Rosemary's Baby, so I will not give any points to originality. There are some rather fascinating kill scenes, though, and one particular swimming pool moment is really the stuff of nightmares.

Depending on your take of the context, The Legacy either has one of the most direly bleak conclusions in the world or one of the most joyfully uplifting conclusions. Everything that happens is well-earned, though, and it plays out so well in terms of the overall mood of the film. I personally love it.

Here's to another solid Scream Factory release.

This movie looks killer. Is it worth a blind buy for a big 70s horror fan?

Gray was in Diamonds Are Forever (and had a supporting role in You Only Live Twice), not Spy.

Oops. I stand corrected. I had him confused with Curd Jürgens.

Definitely not a blind buy film, but it has some sentimental value for me. I'm looking forward to watching it again.

It just about breaks my heart to see people giving bad reviews to The Legacy and The Sentinel. I had a fun time watching both of them, and I think that the people at Scream Factory who are responsible for these releases deserve extra cases of beer at Christmas.

Hey I have a question about the end...I loved this when they showed it on HBO years ago...must have watched it 20 times. Anyway, in the end I always wondered
[Show spoiler] about the ring...so she will have to give out five more rings right besides the one she gave to Pete but does that mean Pete is a goner eventually as she has to kill off five of them? Or do you think Pete will be the one she spares? Also do they live an extra long life? (it seemed that Mountolive aged rapidly at the end like his real age caught up with him). I liked the ending because they were still together but felt uneasy about the future....I mean she says she can do anything she wants when Pete asks her, does that mean with Pete and do things differently or what?

[Show spoiler]The ending is happy in a way, and unfortunate in another way. I did not put a lot of thought into it, except to assume that Margaret and Pete would live a long long life of luxury, that she would be able to choose the other four beneficiaries at her will, and that, eventually, the cycle will repeat itself.

I really really liked this movie. I loved the tone of the film and the pace. there are some great over the top scenes for sure. I thought it was a decent thriller from the 70's rainy day afternoon.

I went into the film blindly, thank goodness I watched no trailers etc they really give away too much! I only knew the cast and the poster artwork and was intrigued. I just let the film unfold.

Great interview with Anne V Coates infamous editor or Lawrence of Arabia. great stories from Anne I think you could just film her for weeks with great stories of her career.

I finally got around to watching it tonight, and I thought it looked great. I did notice a bit of weirdness in one scene -- sort of like a warping of the picture on two quick occasions -- but I didn't notice any compression issues on my 52" screen. I'm not saying they're not there, just that nothing caught my eye. And, yes, there's a bit of dirt on the opening, I'm assuming as a result of the optical titles. The movie? About what I remembered -- nothing that great. But I'll watch anything with Sam Elliot in it. In fact, I followed it up with Frogs for a Sam Elliot mini-marathon.

A BD25 is fine for a 100 minute film with not many extras.

Fantastic!

I watched this film last night. Absolutely loved it. Some of the stuff is way out there bonkers (though not for fans of this stuff!) but the direction and cinematography are top rate and ground it.
