Very interesting that you're not supposed to talk about it. I've been to plenty of early screenings before, and typically embargos only limit official members of the press from writing and publishing reviews for it. Never seen it extended to "movie-goer that posts on movie related message boards."

This wasn't an early screening, it was a test screening. Been to a few of the former and I've always posted my thoughts immediately afterward. This was my first test screening.

Did you get the tickets/invite from hanging out around The Americana in Glendale? I know that's a pretty big hotspot for getting them (or used to be 4 years ago when I lived in the area)

Yeah, I saw the film in a test screening in April, and also had the NDA, as well as the fact that it was clearly in work in progress form at that time. I've been to some test screenings (in particular Jane Got a Gun like two years before it came out, and I'm interested in seeing the final film as sounds like were some major differences

) and that's standard for them, though I think there was one exception I've been to.

As far as free early screenings of a finished movie goes, sometimes you are included with the audience for a critic's screening and they tell you not to say anything until reviews are out, but really depends on the movie (weirdly with Paterson, they said not to say anything till the movie came out, even though it had already screened at film festivals and had reviews).

Speaking of which, I don't think embargoes are attached to early film festival showings, and I feel if I pay for a screening as one does for film festivals, I have a right to discuss it afterwards anyway.

Alex Garland’s ‘Annihilation’ Gets 2018 Release Date

Paramount has set a February 23, 2018 wide release for Annihilation, Alex Garland’s follow-up film to his 2014 debut Ex Machina which landed him an Oscar nom for original screenplay. Ex Machina‘s Oscar Isaac reunites with Garland to star alongside Natalie Portman. She plays a grieving biologist who signs on for a secret expedition into alien territory.

Tessa Thompson, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Gina Rodriguez co-star. Garland adapted the pic from Jeff VanderMeer’s novel.

The studio showed off an extended look at the movie to exhibitors during CineEurope in June.

Annihilation joins one other film that has staked out the same release date: CBS Films’ horror pic Winchester.

I mean, Ex Machina was a pretty early release as well. This is only 1.5 months earlier.
