[Show spoiler] the teacher telling the kids about the dimensions, folding the plate and stabbing it reminded me of Event Horizon and Interstellar.

I just watched the first episode ready for bed, not a lot to really go on during that first episode but I enjoyed the performance from the guy playing Chief Hopper (he was the mental dude in War of the Worlds right?) and I love the way it is constructed. It really did feel like I was watching a real TV show from the 80s that had been remastered.

Watched all of it. LOVED IT. I loved the "retro" soundtrack, the acting was great, mainly from Finn Wolfhard who has decent chemistry with Millie Brown, the story is original and fresh, although it can be a homage at times and episode six and seven are the best. Grade: A. The drama also worked really well.

[Show spoiler] with Steve...at first yes, then you realize he was trying to fit in with the douches. and when he was helping out in the house i was like, "ok awesome, hope he doesn't die" I didn't expect him to be with her at the end though.
