Any bundle title that heavily features Crown International releases. 95% of their material was either a. Let's ripoff Easy Rider, b. Let's take a Playboy, call it a script and film that, or c. Let's ripoff Dirty Harry, Enter the Dragon, or combine the two.
Probably the only in-house Crown International titles I'd admit to liking are Malibu High and My Tutor. |

Criterion's Last Year at Marienbad: Holy crap, I couldnt even watch it while fast forwarding at 32x speed. Overrated perfume commercial.
Dune: Still havent been able to stay awake through this one. Slept through the dvd and then resold it. Tried it again years later on blu, slept through the better video quality and resold it. Reign of Fire: I have bought and resold this on dvd and blu over the years. I always want to see it as time goes by but for some reason I have a memory that I liked it but I have no memory of not liking it. But I do know that I always get rid of it. Even now, I want to rebuy it but I still cant remember why I didnt want to keep it. Criterion's Goddard films: brain pain. Good for insomniacs. Bought and resold those quickly. John Woo's The Killer/Hard Boiled: bought the dvds. Resold them. Bought the blus years later, still didnt get into them, resold them. |

Wanderlust - The Paul Rudd scene in front of the mirror was one of the most painfully unfunny moments I've ever seen in a comedy.
Smokin' Aces 2: Assassins' Ball - Only bought it because years ago Best Buy was giving out a gift card with the purchase of two select Blu-rays and this was one of them. A giant mess of a movie. The only decent moment was when they subverted the "bad guy coolly gets away at the end" trope. Well, naked Autumn Reeser didn't hurt either. |

Wow! A $20 BD that sucked? I wouldn't consider that an impulse purchase. Now a newly released $35,000 vehicle that I should have waited on more reviews to come out before purchasing, well, that's a different story.
![]() Now, to stay on topic, I've made a few blind buys that regrettably wasted more of my time than money. |

I bought a lot of Criterion movies from one B&N sale on impulse because they were supposed to be such great films. Most were boring, overrated nonsense. Sold most of them for less than I paid so I definitely regret that from a financial standpoint. At least now I know to watch before I buy the movies on the Criterion label.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
That was two+ hours I will never get back. The worst thing is all I really remember about is being bored to tears and something about pyramids. This gets my vote as the worst blockbuster of the century I, Frankenstein The trailers made it look like fun, and despite all the warnings that it was a horrible movie I bought it anyway. The major plot point of the movie is whether the monster has a soul or not, and the movie can't make up it's mind about that. Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning The cast is a dream team of DTV, Van Damme, Lundgren and Adkins. That right there is enough to sell me on it, I also had great hopes after the awesomeness of Unisol: Regeneration. But Lundgren and Van Damme barely have 5 minutes of screentime, the plot barely has anything in common with the series, they use a nauseating strobe effect that seemingly goes on forever and the plot is nonsense in the first place. Despite an awesome fight scene in a sports shop, I just couldn't get on board with this. |

I do blind buy movies sometimes. But only movies i certainly know i'm going to like so never umpulsive. I choose my movies very, very carefully. What style i like, what i think is fun to watch. I tend to do way too much reading and following on movies. and I know my taste in movies very well. I'm got better as time went by and now i (almost) perfected that art. There is not a single Blu-ray or DVD in my possession that i don't want to own. Sure there are movies in my collection that make you think "why the hell do you own that", but there's always a reason behind it why i have it in my collection. And every once in a while (scarce) there pops up a movie that i really hate.

Snowpiercer is an incredible masterpiece of filmmaking. It's tightly paced, exhilarating, intense, and dramatic.
Until the last 15 minutes completely ruins the film and makes it a horribly written waste of time. So disappointing. |

I have a few...
Maps to the Stars - Definition of a one-watch... it was only $15 upon its initial release and it's directed by Cronenberg so I thought "why not?" but it was really a misguided purchase... so-so movie, but many dislikable qualities to this one. Elysium - Decent movie, but a bad blind buy... not sure if I'll ever watch it again. Foxcatcher - Another blind buy that I regretted... not a movie I think I have the urge to watch again in my lifetime. Slow burn with no real pay-off. Saved by its performances. Mostly just blind buys. I have gotten quite lucky with blind buys. Hell, there are still a few blind buys I haven't watched yet... but for the most part, I pick good ones. Not all the time, though. ![]() |

A couple of years ago, I bought my other half the Game of Thrones Series 1-2 Blu-ray box set for £50. It was the very definition of an impulse buy. We were both curious about it because of the hype and I must've had quite a bit of disposable income that month.
Neither of us have watched anything past the first episode. |
