SF said December. They haven't announced an exact date yet.

I paid like 50 bucks for an used OOP DVD, ripped it for myself, and resold the original DVD. I can finally toss that copy.

Same here, I haven't seen this in literally decades. I remember liking all the stories but the last one, I didn't hate it but it was not as good as the first three.

Nightmares is going to be widescreen! TURD STEW! I wanted a full-screen version since it was originally shot in that ratio.

I remember liking NIGHTMARES (I recently watched it on a cable movie channel) because he listens to punk rock while playing video games in The Bishop of Battle & I was just getting into punk at the time...

Nightmares was originally filmed for television in a full-screen ratio.

Yeah but films like this were often shot with a widescreen ratio in mind. So when you do crop them, it doesn't look too tight. IMDb says it premiered in New York City, so it would most definitely been shown theatrically in 1.85:1.

Yes, it was filmed as a 1.33:1 tv-movie; then when it turned out pretty good, Universal decided to release it theatrically in 1.85:1. But since it was released matted theatrically, that's arguably the "correct" ratio now, even if it wasn't originally composed for that. Still, the earlier Anchor Bay DVD was the 1.33:1 master so it may be worth holding on to that release as well.

I had more of a problem when they released Body Bags in faux widescreen, where that was composed for 1.33:1 for Showtime and actually shown that way.

The reason that Nightmares got a theatrical release was because the movie turned out to be too violent for a television broadcast and they had to release it theatrically. So the full-screen aspect ratio would be the way to see the movie.

$29.99 is the MSRP. It should be around $20 by the release date.

The SF website specs list it at 1.78:1, which is likely a crop job from the original unmatted DVD aspect. I saw the movie on Universal HD a few times some years ago and it didn't look right, as it was cropped the same way, although it did look cleaner than the AB DVD. I suggest selling your DVD if you have one while the price is still high, since the value will drop considerably once this is released.

I stared at the cover too long; now all I see is a dude's head and shoulders formed by the outer shapes of the hands, all in black, with comically large eyes peering out from a hood.
