If the specs on DVDbeaver are true, then one of the extras (the audio conversation between Van Sant and Todd Haynes) has been cut SIGNIFICANTLY - from a little over two hours to less than an hour.
But in the specs, DVDbeaver have also listed that the packaging is the standard plastic Criterion case, which I doubt. They also did this for the DVD and we know for a fact that the DVD is a digipack. I really hope those DVDbeaver caps are misleading because this might be the worst case of poor compression on a Criterion release so far. Why the hell did they use so much space for the extras? |

Criterion is definitely screwing up something with many of their blus as far as compression is concerned. And I'm not a "screencap junkie" -- I notice it while the film is in play, then stop to examine, and there it is: artifacts that look nothing like grain, but rather plus & minus signs (+ & -) or pixel blocks. I have no idea what size monitor you guys are watching this stuff on, or what size monitor Criterion's QC staff are watching on (probably iPhones, considering they're most likely Tumblr-aged interns) but on my meager 46" I can plainly see this stuff in play from eight feet away. I see this all over their supposedly "perfect" transfers, like Heaven's Gate or Thin Red Line: Look at the beige wall and the light window on either side of the standing figure here: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/scree...50&position=10 Last edited by Bob Kramer; 09-07-2015 at 12:33 PM. |

People are "afraid" of saying anything, Criterion "thinks" it has stellar releases, so the problem will go on and on and on and on and on... |

The biggest case of artistic revisionism to me in recent times is Heaven's Gate. The film did not look that bright or clean on its first release apprently. Critics at the time often complained about how muddy it looked and all the stills and video and dvd copies I've seen didn't look anywhere close to how they do now either.

I like the cover, I never seen it but I always like River and Keanu so I will pick it up as a blind buy

The only thing I hate about them is worrying whether they'll get damaged in the shipping process. I will order this with another iteam on purpose so that Amazon send it in a cardboard box and not a bubble mailer that they always do when I order a single item.
Looks great BTW. ![]() |

Really? That sucks. What kind of blu rays were they when they sent you two in the same bubble mailer? Were they like $5-10 titles in common packaging or were they more deluxe?

EDIT: here we go: When asked about the fate of "My Own Private River," Franco sheepishly suggested that it would probably not be released to own on DVD or Blu-Ray. "['My Own Private Idaho' distributors] New Line [Films] doesn't want us to compete with the original [film] either," he joked. "But I do hope to continue screening it as I hope more people get to see the film." From: http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplayli...enixs-approval Last edited by postmodel; 10-06-2015 at 07:10 PM. |

Has anyone watched this yet? When River is climaxing during that first scene and we see the house falling into the street (around 6:12) there is a huge bright blue line that shoots down the screen..almost as if the film is scratched. I feel like that shouldn't be there. I've only seen the movie a few times before this and don't recall that line.

At least it's not on all of them. I'll reach out to them about it. I'll continue watching to see if there are any other moments like this. Thanks for the quick response! |
