Since Horizon part 2 got pushed back and I was in the mood for a Western, I decided to pop in my blu-ray to re-watch this film. I was surprised how similar the style was to Horizon since Costner didn't direct this one.

It goes for a more epic and deliberately paced story, and it won't appear to everyone, but I quite like it. It does explore Earp's story in more detail compared to Tombstone, but both are good. The various Earp films are like different Robin Hood films, where I can usually find something to like in each movie no matter how different they are. Something about those stories just appeal to me, and I enjoy unique takes on them.

Be great to see this receive the 4K treatment along with both cuts of the film. Pretty sure the expanded edition is exclusive to the LaserDisc.

Someone made a fan edit using the blu-ray as the main video source and using the deleted and expanded scenes from the laserdisc called the full tombstone and it looks great

Just watched it again recently. It is a very good film and has become part of my regular rotation. And while I like Tombstone, I prefer this and the more expansive, ambitious approach it takes to the subject material. It's all pretty absorbing. Just want a release with improved picture quality now.
