Warner did remaster the audio though: went from DD 1.0 to DTS-HD MA 1.0 and it has two new features.

Actually, yeah it would be confusing. Take the Fifth Element Blu-ray for example. Two different Blu-rays, one with terrible A/V quality and one with fantastic quality. The only way to tell the difference between the two versions is a small bit of fine print on the back of the case labeling it as "remastered". They've already used the original artwork for the first release. So if this version is remastered, they really need to change the artwork to differentiate the two versions. A simple "remasted" label on the cover would suffice for some, but to make it clear the versions are different, you have to make them look different.

Plus, I dig the job they did here. Very nice art that catches the eye.

is there a way to tell before you buy it? They just wouldn't put on the obvious "remaster blah bitty blah" would they?

Well, it doesn't have a flux capacitor to make everyone buy it again if it's the same Bluray!!

I wouldn't pre-order it. Just wait for a review.

Please don't give Warner any ideas. I could see them actually doing this.

I have e-mailed Warner home video with the following message:

"It is my understanding that you plan to release a "Diamond Luxe" Edition of Christmas Vacation in a Steelbook Blu-ray soon.

Hooray, I love this movie!

However...if this is NOT a remaster then don't expect it to sell. There are many thousands, maybe millions, of fans of this movie, who will be bitterly disappointed if you use the ancient master that is currently in circulation.

Christmas Vacation needs remastered, plain and simple, and if you squander this opportunity and give us the same old terrible transfer then the consumer will lose faith in the brand name.

Do the right thing, remaster Christmas Vacation in 4K and give as an HD soundtrack too."

If it's a new transfer, there will almost certainly be an announcement in advance. Then again, as we've seen with "Goodfellas" (and other titles), people sometimes look at a new transfer and prefer the old one.

There were scenes in this movie that looked muddy to ay the least, I wouldn't expect a miracle but it really deserves an updated transfer.

Indeed, the original Blu transfer was bad even for an early format release...just a new encode and lossless from the same master would do a world of good. Hopefully we'll get a new scan altogether

It is a continuation. .. Chase and DeAngelo reprise their roles in a cameo (but it was also intended to reboot the franchise.. a sequelboot!)

Also.. Vegas Vacation didnt have the National Lampoon heading either.

A cameo they added weeks before the movie was released to theaters. That's how much of a vital contribution it was to a "continuation" or sequel or whatever you want to call it.

Either way, if you think it's a sequel in the same way CHRISTMAS VACATION is a sequel, more power to you. lol
