Oh, another amazing Blu-ray remaster by Viz just like Sailor Moon.

They did an awesome job with Ranma so there's definitely hope.

Yes. Sailor Moon didn't fare well with the overuse of DNR and the ghosting of season one.
Hardly any DNR, lots of grain, and no noticeable ghosting in season two though.

I'm going to assume (and yes I know you shouldn't assume), that the upscale for Death Note will be better, since it was digitally animated so there's no film grain to ruin with DNR. Although Viz could mess up in other ways, I'm hoping they don't.

The sucky part is that I just bought the complete DVD set less than a year ago, and now I'll have to buy the show again on Blu-ray.

I blind bought the DVD CE pictured above about 6 months ago. I might double dip for the BDs (unless they're a screwed upscale) but I'll have to watch the show first and decide whether it's something I'd want to shell out for again first.

Love DN but am tired of throwing my money away at shows with horrible PQ. I hope DN on BD will look good but I highly doubt that because the monkeys at subatomic digital are authoring the Blu-ray. The same inept company that screwed up the Viz BDs for Sailor Moon, Gargantia, and the Moribito collection.

Why does Viz and other companies keep using Subatomic Digital? I would figure that if they suck and people are complaining they would stop using them. I guess they must be cheaper then everyone else.

That's what am thinking as well, cheaper than everyone, built by the lowest bidder, etc. I guess we get what we truly pay for.

Let's say for a minute AoA was publishing DN instead, we'd be paying a lot more for this set but we'd be getting pretty much guaranteed flawless video and audio.

I love Death Note, too. But the problem with Death Note is how badly they handled the ending, heck, it's like they couldn't give it the righteous series finale. Not even in the fictional world can one do the right thing. There's people who deserve to live and others who don't. Light should've become Him.

He was definitely doing a better job than the govt was, that's for sure.

You can still apply DNR to digital anime. There's more than enough examples of say bad Japanese BD's doing this (Particularly from the morons at Q-TEC). Here's just five.

-Shakugan no Shana (FUNi used the JPBD footage)
-Shakugan no Shana Second (Same as S1)
-FLCL (FUNi used the JPBD footage. Also fun fact, Starchild really cheaped out. The packaging SUCKED too.)
-Kaleido Star
-Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo

The DVD wins out every time for these examples due to these upscales not turning out so good.

Hmm the BD for Count doesn't look that bad. It is sharper then the R1 DVD.

I don't to talk about Shana lol. Such a terrible job...

It still has less detail than ancient Geneon DVD's (Though to be fair, Geneon generally was the best at DVD's back then. Their DVD's hold up.). Look at the hair in these shots for one of the biggest examples of this. DVD BD

Count looks sorta OK but details were still brushed away. Not as bad as FUNi's DBZ Blu-ray remaster which they tried to make it look like a new show.
