Not terrible for a quasi disney release. I really can't wait to pick this up.

As stated before, since it's a Touchstone release of a Dreamworks film, it will not earn DMR points (and will not be eligible for DMA). iTunes Extras will have two exclusive features: a photo gallery and a 12 min featurette "The Sound of Spies", the latter will focus on the score by Thomas Newman and the sound design by Gary Rydstrom. |

Well, War Horse and Lincoln got an entire bonus disc of meaty extras so it's a little on the thin side for a Spielberg release. And they were both released by Touchstone too. I'm not even sure that Spielberg 's usual documentarian Laurent Bouzerau was involved in the movie though, which may explain the slightly thinner bonus package.

Fox's release will likely have the same features as the Touchstone/Disney release, although it is possible it could have the iTunes exclusive "Sound of Spies" featurette. I definitely plan to get the Touchstone/Disney release, and will redeem for iTunes to get access to the iTunes Extras exclusive featurette and photo gallery. This might be premature, but this and The Martian are the first films that I'm choosing not to buy solely because there might/will be a 4K version later on. I loved this film but I'm not going to spend $23 on it right now when there will probably be another version coming out soon.

Haven't seen this, and will probably pick it up at the right price. But I'm probably correct in assuming this is one of those movies that tries to create an equivalency, or an ambiguity, as to who the good guys and bad guys were in the Cold War.

I haven't seen the film, but most of the best cold war films don't foreground ideology; as in my favourite example, The Spy Who Came in From the Cold, there's an emphasis on "expediency" -- doing the most harm to the enemy at a minimum cost. And "cost" in this context meant lives, of course, along with cash.
So from a practical operations standpoint, if the film's interested in being taken seriously (not Rambo: First Blood, part II) neither side comes out looking great. I'm not sure if that's "ambiguity" or "equivalency" so much as "authenticity". Even something like Charlie Wilson's War, which is admittedly a comedy (at least in large part), doesn't make a secret of the fact that the U.S. goal in Afghanistan is to "kill Russians"; not a lot of lofty political rhetoric there. In any case, I'm really looking forward to seeing this; I haven't loved every movie Spielberg has made in the last ten years, but if it has the Munich and Lincoln touch, I'm sure it's great. |

That is true, like Frozen still never had it release week sale price again, since then. That is the same with Big Hero 6, Planes: Fire & Rescue. Those movies also never had a good Black Friday sale price either like Inside Out Blu-ray at 9.99. But Sleeping Beauty, Dumbo and Mary Poppins had sales again, either at a better price or same as the release week price.

Disney + Spielberg + Hanks probably makes it even less likely to see a big price drop, not just soon but maybe hardly ever. Even though it's not Disney, look at 'Catch Me If You Can', that's one stubborn title when it comes to finding a low price. I caught it at BB ages ago for $9.99 but I don't think I've ever seen it that low since.
