Great news guys, my surgery is confirmed for next week Wednesday the 25th

3 different surgeons will be operating on me that day, and it's a 10 hour surgery

I'll be in the hospital anywhere from 3-5 days, hopefully 3 lol I want to be home fast!

Its benign which is great news so no cancer. But this is obviously a life changing surgery.... and I'm not sure how I'm handling it as I just found out after having an MRI. Meeting with the surgeon on Wednesday to see what the next step is. Family and wife is taking it harder then I am. I mean obviously I'm scared but not much I can do now

My mother was diagnosed with a meningioma about 16 years ago. It had been growing for about 30 years and was the size of a small grapefruit or large orange. Her's was located just at the base of the skull, on her left side.

My mother had been very athletic and was first alerted to a problem when she started feeling dizzy all of the time, terrible vertigo, and eventually could not run, bike, or swim anymore. The doctors ran numerous tests on her and couldn't find a thing, until finally she suggested to her doctor that she thought she might have a brain tumor. Her doctor dismissed it, but for precautions sake, ran an MRI and voila!!

The surgery was very successful. Because they had to chip away the back part of her skull, which is thick with bone, they replaced it with fat from her thigh and so there is a slight "soft" spot on the back of her head. She ran into a couple of issues after the surgery, including seizures, but that was due to the years of pressure on the back of the brain, coupled with sudden release. One night she woke up and her pillow was soaking wet with blood when she had nearly bitten her tongue off during a seizure she didn't even remember having. (I'm sure the doctor can give you more insight). She took some anti-seizure medication and to her knowledge never had another one. Other than that, she had a perfectly fine and full recovery. She never was quite able to fully get back to exercising like she used to, but she's 64 today and lives a very active and full life.

Don't be disheartened. Not sure if you have a relationship with God, but He was a big help and source of strength to my mom. I'm confident you will get through this.

I went ahead and contacted who I thought was Nav's employer. I really hate to post this, but they told me that he recently passed away. No specific information. I asked about any contact info for his family in case they needed any help, but haven't heard back yet. I'm also trying to get confirmation that it is the same Nav as we know, but I think it is.

Even though I never actually met him in person or spoke to him and heard his voice, I really considered him a friend over the past 8-10 years on here...as I'm sure quite a few others have. Very sad day.
