Oh brother, that's a very long delay from what was originally predicted in 2017. Only 3 years off schedule for the Avatar team. But late is better than never. The good news is, with Star Wars and plenty of other sci fi films on the horizon, there's so much else to look forward to in addition to Avatar 2 3D. Even so, this could potentially do a lot to boost the 3D market and possibly reintroduce the 3D feature in TVs. |

Loosely related: https://inews.co.uk/essentials/news/...aviour-cinema/
“Avatar’s four forthcoming sequels, the first of which is slated for release in December 2018, are guaranteed to shine the spotlight on 3D once more, and the magic of watching a film the way it was meant to be watched”. Founder of RealD Michael V Lewis spoke to The i Paper about the future of 3D and why it is the saviour of the cinema. |

Sounds great! But I wonder how much a ticket will cost to see one of these laser blaster 3D showings. Theaters will have to recoup their costs...
I'm thinking $30~$50 per ticket... Last edited by Kenbar; 06-28-2017 at 04:20 PM. |

I hope at least one theatre in Toronto will have a glasses-free capable laser projector by then. I'm also curious if the technology it uses is transferable to flat-panel televisions, or if some other technique is going to have to be used to achieve glasses-free 3-D at home (until home laser projectors become affordable, anyway).
If true, with any luck, this may revitalize the 3-D market and renew interest in the format. |

I used to get annoyed and avoid movies sometimes because of the glasses. Honestly, it was because my old TV was active. It was annoying:
- The glasses would need to be charged - The active synch would need to be maintained for all glasses and if I paused the movie too long or turned the tv off the whole process of getting them all synched again began again (most annoying!) - The glasses were a bit heavier - The flicker - The Image in 3D mode had 1/8th the PQ Contrast Ratio as it did in 2D mode Now with the Passive Oled, I have no complaints putting on the glasses, which are nice and light and don't disrupt the flow of watching a 3D movie anymore. I know a bit long winded for me there ![]() |

It can't just be active TVs causing the complaints though, because I know people and have seen many more complaints from people on the internet about having to wear the glasses even in theatres, 99% of which are passive (some IMAX theatres being the only exception I know of that can use active).
Glasses-free should at least eliminate the major complaint of all those people. |

I know you are right. I was directing it more towards the at home 3D reception that's essentially killed the market. 3D was about 1/4 baked for most of its at home ride. And as you point out, even fully baked there's still going to be complaints about just the act of glasses alone.

4k oled glasses free 3d, hopefully by then the motion is fixed. I'd probably wait a gen or two still for the issues that will almost certainly exist to be ironed out. But hey, it sounds like a tv i'd consider upgrading to which has been non existent for a while now.
