They tried to get it when they got Nightbreed but Warner Bros said no. I'am sure the success of the Nightbreed DC blu ray and Scream hunting down all the footage even though Morgan Creek said it was lost just like they have done with The Exorcist III.
Has led to Morgan Creek finally relenting and giving us a Directors Cut.

Never going to happen through the Studio. From their end they've wasted enough money on Dominion and that rushed post-production for Schrader's cut had to do with the little money they had to finish it. I doubt there are enough fans of the movie out there anyway, the consensus is that it's better than the Harlin version but still a flawed movie. Adding better effects and music wont change that IMO.

Oh, I'm absolutely aware. It's an interesting bit of film history and very much a flawed movie. It's certainly a film of Schrader's era of the 1970s and not of modern sensibilities. The CGI hyenas and snake really take me out of the film. I wish they would have done the whole thing practically so it would have held up in these moments.

It's like a robot who regurgitates catchphrases without being aware of the context, but as they say a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush!

I can't say I minded the exorcism with "Merlin" at the end (though it was edited a bit confusingly, with him plastered up on the ceiling and then his skin ripping off his back when he fell back down), but it will be... interesting to see this cut. I think the thing I didn't like at all was the stupid shot of the elderly lady crawling on the ceiling overtop Kinderman. That kind of crud ruins the EXORCIST movies (yes, I know Linda floats in the first movie, but it was built up and was about Satan "showing off" to demoralize the priests. Nobody saw the old man crawling on the ceiling in the middle of the day, which is stupid either way: either it's not scary because nobody can see it, or it's stupid because why aren't people seeing an old woman crawling on the ceiling in broad daylight?!?).

I also don't know how I feel if they delete Jason Miller. He was one of the best things about E III.

PS: was there ever a scene with Kinderman and the priest from the first EXORCIST on a table or something? Because when I first watched the movie in the theaters I never made the connection that these were the same characters carried over. Maybe if George had a moustache or something (and Richard Dysart had the comb over).

Regardless, here is hoping they will remaster both films and put them both out like the NIGHTBREED set.
I think your first sentence is already missing the whole point of this release. This was never supposed to be a direct sequel to The Exorcist. It was supposed to be called Legion and be at best a loosely connected spin-off. It was the studio which turned this into a direct Exorcist sequel and this is now going to be reversed and put right. Therefore why should it look like The Exorcist and ape Friedkin's style ?

If it is Warner the one to releases, this better give them consideration to release Jason Goes to Hell uncut.

I was wondering if there's a thread about this type of topic about cut footages in horror movies. Very interesting topic, just Horror genre other genre cut/lost footages don't appeals to me.

All the new stuff that's going to be added in looks/sounds great. That face morphing scene looks pretty ****ing creepy. Only thing I'm really worried about is Jason Miller being completely removed from the film. BUT we do get more Brad Dourif....

I think the DC will be the superior version of the film by far.

Warner Brothers doesn't have a problem director's cuts as long they are submitted to the MPAA and granted, at most, an 'R' rating by the MPAA.

(shrugs shoulders) it's like JAWS 2, ALIENS and even STAR TREK II to an extend (maybe throw in DIE HARD 2): I just like it when sequels (which regardless of how loose this was, it WAS a sequel) maintain a consistent look. And being that I really love the look and style of the first EXORCIST, I'm just saying that personally I wished it had a similar style.
