That would be more of a tide turner than Star Wars, IMO. You bring those extended versions out on blu ray and you'll get people buying players for the sole purpose of having that trilogy.

The newest three didn't fly over well with many people (even though I'm in the minority who loved every one of them). So I'm not sure how much of a difference those would make.

Let's say they were given a green light to release them now, the only way to do it from "A New Hope" on would be to release them in the editions that I have on the laserdisc. That would at least keep the "here we go with yet another Star Wars release" *****ing down to a dull roar.

I'd bet that the ones from Phantom Menace on would look unbelievable. A buddy of mine and I saw a high def screening of it and we were pretty much blown away by what we saw. They would be reference material before you even pulled off the shrink wrap.

All that being said I'd have every last one of them preordered the moment they became available.
although i hear you on the grumpiness among SW fans, i still believe there's enough residual love/good will among us for lucas that if he chooses to green light the release of -any- version of the original SW trilogy on HDM, we'd all be lined up at the preorder desk (virtual or otherwise).

i didn't buy the last release (despite really wanting the original theatrical versions), but i'd be lined up to buy these.

If I could have Revenge of the Sith on HD, I don't know how long it would take for me to actually move from my couch....Two days minimum. Honey, I'm eating breakfast, lunch, and supper in the living room again. And if you could serve it for me I would appreciate it.

LOTR would be nuetral though since its warner and the Hd Dvd version willbe better since Warner does a cheap job on their Blue-rays. It would help Hd Dvd in the long run. But Star Wars would be a slam dunk for Blue-ray.

On a side note. I know Indiana Jones is a Paramount flick. But, does Lucas have the ability to keep the movie from being released on HD-DVD? Like Spielberg did with Universal and JP.

Thanks!
Star Wars is my holy grail of blu-rays I think it would smash records in my opinion (but i'm a bit biased)

If the past releases of Starwars are any indication, Lucas always wait until the format is well WELL established. I remember back in 2000 Lucas said to not expect a Starwars DVD pack until 2005 ...

In the meantime if Starwars came out on Bluray now IMO it would break the 200k record for first week and it would settle around 500 k no doubts.
A pity it won't come out for a long time

Which is precisely what anyone with a potentially big catalog title *should* be doing because, in the immortal words of Kid Rock, "If it's marketed right, you'll buy it." Would you rather market your biggest properties to a potential audience of 2M? 20M? 200M? Or more?

i'm a trekkie, but i'm not gonna touch HD-DVD even if it had a scantily clad 7of9 on the cover... HD-DVD is an insult to the Star Trek universe.

Think of it as the NCC-1701-A of HD optical media.

If I was the BDA and Fox. I would plead with Lucas to release at least one SW movie on Blu. Although, I am sure they have.
