wonder why audio specs haven't been announced. Considering IMAX has mastered this for IMAX-laser, I'm not sure if the audio got remixed to 12-channel sound, if that's the case, Shout! could (and should) encode it to Dolby Atmos.

Or DTS X. Or Auro 11.1.
EDIT - On second thoughts, not Auro 11.1 But I can see DTS X happening. |

What on Earth is going on with these 4K UHD prices?
$40 MSRP price for a 45 minute movie? Shout Factory, are you kidding me? |

IMAX documentaries tend to be expensive.
You could wait a while before purchasing. And besides, this $40 package comes with both 3D and 4K UHD BD. It's not a common practice with other feature films right now. So it's quite reasonable. Also, the regular 2D BD is $20. Sent from my MI PAD 2 using Tapatalk |

Some of the Macgillivray Freeman self produced films have been cheaper on 3D. or someone correct me on the terminology there but there is a difference in IMAX sponsoring the Arctic, Hubble, Lemurs etc vs Grand Canyon etc |

It will be interesting to see what the average/peak bit-rates work out to be on these IMAX titles. With the longer films and the disk space being limited to 66 GB, so far, overall file-size might have been an issue, limiting sustainable rates. Theoretically, at 45 minutes length a piece, they might be able to sustain the encodes of these at maximum peak through the whole film length, if they wanted, giving plenty of breathing-room.
(On a side note, hopefully the 100 GB disks will be in greater production by the time The Martian (and Batman vs. Superman extended cut when it is released, plus all of the other lovely cat. releases of longer films - you know which ones. ![]() Last edited by LuminousMotion; 04-09-2016 at 09:44 PM. |

The imax hdr documentaries will most likely all be reference demo material and will look better than most of the 4k blu rays. I'm also interested in rocky Mountain express. Quote:
Yep. Prepare for blastoff. |
