Just noticed my HMV pre-order says 'Payment processing' which usually means it'll be dispatched same-day (from the few orders I've made so far). So mine should arrive tomorrow!

Not bad for £12.50...

Dispatched from HMV. Great stuff - will arrive tomorrow then!

Glad both HMV and Amazon got these out there ASAP. To be honest they probably fast-tracked this particular title because of the high demand - I imagine more and more collectors places an order soon after HMV dropped the price to £14.99! It's at least £19.99 everywhere else, and £23.99 from Eureka themselves.

Mine arrived from HMV too, and seemed to be near-mint (very slight dent on one corner but nothing worth crying about). Unfortunately, when I opened it the front cover of the booklet was damaged - I'm holding back the tears.

Brilliant set otherwise! Packed with stuff - I dunno where to start!

Noticed the lack of certificates anywhere on the set - is it rated E? Even Eureka's release of For All Mankind, which was rated E, still had an E certificate on the back of the box. Interestingly the BFI's release last year was rated U.

May be because of extras in the case of the BFI set. Who knows why they didn't put an E certificate on the Eureka set - perhaps it was simply because they ran out of space to list the extras/blurbs?

I assumed it was exempt, tho the film itself was given a U rating last year by the BBFC. Thinking about it I'm not sure how exemption works. I was under the impression that all documentaries could get by on an E rating but obviously that's not the case.

The BFI extras amount to little more than Simon Callow reciting Vertov's lines for a few minutes and little else - Eureka's release is far more comprehensive in terms of extras (although the BFI release still holds some value for the Nyman score, commentary, One-Sixth of the World and the booklet).

Criterion's release of Grey Gardens was given a 12 (although I'd argue a PG rating would be more apt) because of the occasional sexual reference, having previously been released by Eureka under an E certificate.

According to MoC's website, it has a U certificate. There are several scenes that feature non-sexualised nudity, so I'm somewhat surprised at the BBFC's rating; then again, I've no idea what their thinking is on this stuff.

As for MoC's packaging, I thought all U.K. releases had to display a BBFC logo by law?

HMV Metrocentre were only getting 2 copies. They have 1 left.

Excellent set, and under priced imo.

Does the BFI disc use the same cut (if not restoration) as the Eureka edition? The Eureka booklet mentions restoring the chapter number intertitles, so I expect not, but I'm very curious to hear the Nyman score, being the Greenaway fan that I am, and I'm wondering if it could just be cued up to play alongside the Eureka disc...

The score on the Eureka disc is really good as well (although I prefer the Nyman score). I don't think you'd be able to do that without some kind of fanediting.

My favourite of Vertov's other films is Enthusiasm (and One-Sixth of the World on the BFI disk.)

On the subject of scores, I played the Cinematic Orchestra one alongside while I watched this release second time around. It was all the awesomes.
