I caught the first showing at CGV today and the theater was pretty empty despite the fanfare & hype surrounding this film. The one aspect I enjoy from Asian cinema (Korean in particular) as opposed to Western cinema is the multi-mood experience and this film certainly fits the bill. I wish it were a bit more cohesive at times and better paced but I thoroughly enjoyed it till the end. Made a side trip to Kim's Home Center to pick up a new electric kettle afterward, so killed two birds with one stone.

I received my lenticular version as well plus my 2nd JSA replacement copy. I'm going to have to try that "drinking" game the chaebol heads used in Inside Men.

I saw the announcement on NovaMedia's FB page and just emailed them to reserve me a copy with my next order. I wasn't sure when I would place a future order but they said it's no problem; they would hold a copy indefinitely as long as I contacted them beforehand. I know some people complain about their various server issues but the one thing I will say about NM is their customer service department replies very quickly to my inquiries.

i contacted nova yesterday, after seeing you mention another JSA replacement disc - the reply i got said the second disc wasnt yet complete, but would be ready before the end of the month.

i find their english limited, so wonder if theyre clear on what you asked for and what they were sending?

i am refusing to cover postage this time around - not a regular nova customer either - and, as my copy is still unopened, ive said they can have it all back and refund all my money if they wont cover costs of a second replacement disc.

Not sure why they mentioned that it wasn't ready? The second disc is the one that fixed some technical issues with the audio sync. That's the one I received yesterday. I'm bummed NM decided to forgo the Dolby ATMOS due to issues with the remastering but actually I don't even have a Dolby AtMOS enabled AVR or speakers to begin with but wanted it for future consideration.

I'm actually more bummed that I won't have an opportunity to re-watch INSIDE MEN until I get home. I've only watched the director's cut (3 hour long version) & want to see how the shorter theatrical cut stacks up. I can't recall the last time I sat through a 3 hour long movie other than Shoah and it still captured my interest until the final scene. I think this is one of Lee Byung-hun's best performances.

second replacement, not second disc - which sounds like first replacement.

i'm looking forwards to 'inside men' - glad the disc wasn't a plain archive release. it's hardly been noticed. then again, discs have never sold well in korea, so ...

Huh? There is a further replacement for JSA? I thought the original replacement, back in November fixed the problem (audio sync)?

I only just got my JSA replacement the other day and had a bit of hassle getting it. I asked Nova back when it was first announced and they said they'd bundle with my next order. I then ordered 'Assassination' from them a few weeks back and even though I added a note to my order AND I emailed them and they confirmed they would send it, it was never in the package. I then requested they send it separately as I only order sporadically from Korea due to the high prices. Credit due, they did send me the disc so even though it's been a bt of a hassle they have sorted it.

Now though, I'm wondering what I've actually got, if there are now 3 discs out there of JSA? Any difference on the text/codes on the disc underside?

Funny thing is, I haven't even got around to checking the 1st replacement yet to see if I could tell what was wrong with it.

Back to Inside Men, anyone know if it's A locked or region free? Nova's site says all, kimchi say A.
Sorry I missed this post earlier. Yes, it's region free.

Unfortunately I don't have access to the first replacement disc at the moment (lent it to a friend and never got it back). Since you possibly just received the "first" replacement disc, can you tell me what's on the underside and I can compare to the "second" one?

My replacement has the following:

200209 NBBD-0067V2-0 PRESSED IN TAIWAN
200210 NBBD-0067V2-1 PRESSED IN TAIWAN

IFPI LW84 (could be 64 but looks like an 8 to me)

Looks like the same codes.

Btw, I went ahead and contacted NM to clarify the differences between the first recall disc and the second most recent one & NM customer service told me that yes, this second recall disc is not the same as the one announced last November but that it also corrects the audio sync issue. NM found that the first one didn't fix it 100%, while this second one does. NM noted that the differences are very minor between the two discs. I'm guessing this second one was issued to address the complaints of the "perfectionists" & most viewers wouldn't noticed the difference anyway.

I'm still puzzled as to the response they sent logboy about the second disc not being ready until the end of the month?

I can't make head or tail what the disc is for from the Google translation, but it does mention that the disc will be ready in June and more information will be provided when it's ready.
yeah, I'm just going to wait for any further updates on their FB. I find it telling that the "first recall" was in English as well as Hangul while this second recall is only in Hangul. The first was an audio sync issue while this one involves the audio effects processing. NM has stated that they were unable to get Dolby ATMOS audio implemented, so interested to find out what improvements in the 5.1 sound they will make this time around.

Hopefully, logboy will receive his disc soon and he can report on any differences with this second recall.

i'm waiting on it like everyone else, and am unlikely to do any kind of comparison. i haven't watched the original disc, and i'm standing my ground on not paying to cover postage for another replacement, so may send back my unopened lenticular set in protest - for a refund - considering how badly it's been handled.

I can't say I blame you if you return the JSA blu ray. NM certainly botched the recall especially with their policy of charging a shipping fee for it. I know NM relented after receiving complaints about it but I mentioned it was fishy that they posted the notice about the second JSA recall in Korean only. It's much cheaper shipping out replacements discs domestically than internationally.

Thanks.

So now I've got to chase up another disc. This whole thing has been a nightmare, wish I never bothered now.

Emailed Nova ysterday but they're being a right pain. Telling me I already have the ''final'' replacement even though I told them it's V2 and not V3.

Sorry, guess this thread got a bit derailed with all the replacement disc discussion. We're talking about JSA which was released last year & NM has now released 3 "replacement" discs to fix various audio sync & effects issues.

That doesn't bode well for me either since I explicitly made it clear that I was talking about V3 and they said they understood and would send me out the "latest version"...I hope I don't get sent another V2 again.

The whole thing is a complete mess. These things are not cheap either and while I like to support Korean films and feel the package is worth the extra cost, it's not so much when you're having to chase up a corrected disc.
