Oh Wow I forgot I used to have that DVD Set, I sold it when I bought the Blu-Ray Set but I ripped all the DVD's before selling them and I found the external Hard Drive and to my Surprise I have both the 2D and 3D versions!

The Blu-Ray set was quite disappointing overall, all but the first movie had the New Line logos updated to the current version and the extras weren't presented as cleverly as they were in the DVD set.

Wink just watches the 3D ending

I just watched the 3D ending on the DVD (it's a red/blue anaglyph version).

After 5min. I turned off, because I did not want to get a headache. I wonder now what is scarier: the movie or the 3D quality?

But since the FreddyVision 3D sequence isn't available outside of an out-of-print DVD, I figured it was now or never. And if it was bad, I wouldn't have to endure it for more than 10 minutes.

The print of Freddy's Dead was in fantastic shape, nary a scratch on it. The Nightmare on Elm Street series has some of the best special effects I've ever seen in horror, and they hold up to this day. So I had high hopes for the FreddyVision sequence...which turned out to be as unwatchable as the Bev's 3D print of Creature. All but a handful of shots had fatal ghosting; one lens looked correct, but the other could see both images at almost all times. The only shot that was unscathed was the final explosion, which is easily one of the best popouts I've ever seen, and earned a huge round of applause.

Are anaglyph 35mm prints known to develop ghosting over time? Or were they always this unwatchable?
Very cool you got to see it recently! The final explosion was the best pop out effect when I saw it as a kid as well. I remember thinking the heads were circling the guys head sitting in front of me.

I still have the DVD ripped with 3D, but much prefer to have the Oppo convert the BD to modern 3D, several of the effects kinda work. Hopefully a professionally converted one will be included on the BD in the 4K box set.. just putting it out there lol.

Please God no, anyone but Shout Factory - from scratched discs to messed up 3D releases, they are the worst possible company to be releasing anything in 3D.

Well, unfortunately it’s them or nothing I guess.

I've not watched this yet, but I'm assuming that you did that from each eye's video. Where did you source the footage from? New Line were notoriously bad for keeping excised footage from 1&5, I'd be amazed if they kept the actual elements for the 3d here.

I converted it using the same technology as we use on our AIPOP-3D conversions - although to be clear this was an early test, and effectively a one-click conversion without fixes, done in late 2022 so it's not as good as we're able to achieve now.

It's a post-conversion using just one eye?

There was one guy that was working on this project around 2020 (he even had a website) to do a full stereo conversion, then the pandemic hit and he disappeared.

I was having a little mess about with a test to see if I could achieve close to the same depth as the anaglyph (using the 4K sample
as the anaglyph to compare to). It would be possible to get close for much of it, but would need a LOT of manual work. Also obviously the 4K version has more detail. Interesting to experiment.

Here's a comparison still.

The director of Freddy's Dead posted on Instagram that she is working on a 4k restoration, there's a possibility of this finally getting a proper stereo 3D for the final act as well.
