Amen, brother. Thank God there are no AMC theaters in PDX. If Regal goes along with this bad idea, that would cover well over 50% of the screens in the area. While I don't think Cinetopia or any of the indie theaters (especially the Hollywood) would ever go for that, I think someone needs to open an Alamo Drafthouse up here quickly.

Also, I enjoy being "that guy" telling people to shut their shit off (mouths, phones, etc.) while the movie is playing, and I certainly don't want some CEO to take that away from me.

Maybe they'll allow sexting too while they're at it.

Yeah, Cinetopia would be our last hope if Regal started doing the same thing.

Hahaha! Love that meme!

Whatever happened to Our Theater, Our Rules. You break them, you WILL be kicked out. I guess theater owners have grown lax. Must be if this is where it's going.

When you tell a 22-year-old to turn off the phone, don’t ruin the movie, they hear please cut off your left arm above the elbow. You can’t tell a 22-year-old to turn off their cellphone. That’s not how they live their life.
I'm twenty-two and I always turn my phone off when I see a film at the cinema.

Am I an alien?

I don't mind if it's an emergency or you gotta contact someone that you are meeting with but prep your phone before the lights go off, turn your brightness all the way down and mute the ringer!

Even then I've seen and heard people start talking on their phone during the movie at times without leaving.

I don't care if this next statement makes me an a**hole but that's how obsessed I am with film and cinema. For decaaaaades people have been going to the movies without anyway of knowing if there was some kind of emergency going on outside. People went along fine in life before the creation of cell phones.

Exactly.

What's that saying, give them an inch and they take a mile?

Ya! AND, if it's an emergency, just step the f#ck out of the theatre for a minute to deal with it!!! Why do 100+ people have to be dragged into your drama???

I don't care if someone gets a text saying that their child has been rushed to emergency! Take 20 seconds to leave the theatre and then deal with it!

I know that makes me sound kind of heartless, but think about it. Any emergency worth being contacted about while watching a film in theatres, and requiring your immediate attention in this manner, is obviously something that requires you to leave the theatre altogether anyways, right? So, just get the f#ck out and deal with your situation without ruining everyone elses night! If you stay seated and continue texting or making phone calls, it's obviously not a gawd-damn emergency!!!

I hate to sound old, but the whole "millenial" generation is addicted to their phones. I actually witnessed one watching a concert live on his phone... while he was at that concert. His buddy was periscoping the show from the front, and dude stood there watching his tiny little screen instead of the live event that he was currently at. To make it worse, it was a general admission, open floor show; if he wanted a better view, he could have just moved up a bit.

You think that's bad? Just wait until the guy begins to do that during sex.

I'm watching myself type on my laptop through my phone instead of just looking at the laptop screen

I know you shouldn't blanket an entire group or generation but soooo many millenials are dumb, entitled and spoiled as all hell.

This isn't exclusive to millennials. At every concert I've attended there's always been plenty of people watching the performance through their phone. It doesn't make much sense to me but it's their loss.
