I'm worried they will give all the attention to the new Lord of the Rings series they've also been working on. Hope they don't compromise on this in favor of that. I was very disappointed in how Shannara turned out.

Curious what your favorite bit from the books was. I freaking loved the part where

[Show spoiler] Nynaeve Heals Logain.
That moment was the book version of Cap wielding Mjolnir.

I haven't read the entire series. I'm not even sure how many books it's up to now. I read the first three forever ago when I was younger. I'm guessing I'd get a lot more out of them now that I'm older. I've started re-reading the first book several times, but I always get sidetracked by reading something else and end up starting over. I need to get back on it before the series comes out, but I'm currently reading the Expanse books right now and they're so good. I also have The Three Body Problem sitting on my nightstand.

I've been curious about this series for a while and last year the mass market paperbacks with the original cover artwork were being replaced with bland versions, so I went out and bought the entire series with the original artwork before they went OOP. I haven't gotten around to them yet. People are conflicted about this series. Some people love them, but it seems most think they're terrible. I've heard the first few and last few (Sanderson) books are good, but all the books in between are a slog to get through.

LOL most?? Not even. Picked book 5 randomly on Goodreads--136k ratings at an average of 4.13 out of 5. Even the "worst", book 10 has an average of 3.81 out of 5.

Just like with the never ending Sequel Trilogy crying, the loudest voices are the ones with negative opinions. It's a wonderful series full of great characters and an amazing magic system. It requires a tremendous time investment but to me it's worth it.

I hope didn't read the spoiler, I just got thought you had read them all. If you loved Shannara this is much better.

I hope I feel the same way when I get to them. I think I'll move Eye of the World up a few spots in my TBR pile.

I've only read the first three Shannara books as well. Yes, Wheel of Time is much more complex. Robert Jordan is from Charleston, SC and I lived there for about 12 years. Miss it sometimes.

It's been a while since I read either series. I read far more sci-fi than fantasy. My stack of books I need to read keeps growing. I'll get back to WoT eventually. Maybe the TV series will rekindle my interest.

If you haven't fallen in love by book 3 or 4 I'd bail because it's too much time to waste wanting it to get better. I'm not saying it's perfect, there's plenty to pick on but it still is an excellent series.

Season 1 Wrapped Plus Possible Season 2 Filming Dates

https://www.wotseries.com/2021/05/14...filming-dates/

https://tvweb.com/amp/the-wheel-of-t...ilming-amazon/

Quote:
The series began production in September 2019 before pausing in March 2020. It would later resume before yet another pause. Thankfully, filming is no longer required, and Wheel of Time will now enter post production.
Quote:
Rafe Judkins, the showrunner, had previously stated that the shutdowns were ultimately good for the series as it allowed them to refine and perfect the show. He said it even allowed them to delve into the possibilities and storylines of Season 2 (assuming it gets renewed) as they improved the first season.

“Wheel of Time” Scores Season 2 Renewal

“Getting a second season order before the first season has even premiered is such a vote of confidence in the work we are doing and the property itself, and we couldn’t be happier to be able to continue to live and work in the world Robert Jordan created.”

This is such a long series with so many hundreds of characters I just can't see this working well but I'm excited anyway. Please be good.

Even at one season per book, that's a huge commitment. But I hope it goes for a while

Exactly, that's kind of my point. No way this runs 14 seasons so ultimately it won't capture the books properly.

I couldn't even pick "side" stories for them to leave out. You can't skip Matt, Perrin, any of the characters!

But that's probably what they'll end up doing. Just focus on Rand. He is the Dragon Reborn, after all

I can't imagine being an editor on a series like this. I couldn't leave much out. Since you've read the books read my spoiler a few posts up. That's the kind of stuff I'm afraid will be left out.

Nynaeve is probably my favorite female character from the series. I have such high hopes for this and that makes me almost positive it won't be handled well (or that the ratings will be poor and it will get canceled too soon)

I dont know about you guys, but all the press talking about the show is starring Rosamund Pike is making me nervous. It might just be using her star power, or they actually changed who is the main character to raise claims of diversity? I hope not, Moiraine is an important character but should in no way be the star, Rand and his friends should be.

I'm up to book five personally.

It seems like season 1 will have both books 1 and 2 in it. The Showrunner said they're tackling the show as an ensemble series rather than just based on Rand. I wouldn't be surprised if Moraine has a lot of her story more explicitly told rather than hinted at. Frankly, same for many of the other characters in that book 1/2 timeline. I remember being confused as hell when
[Show spoiler]Nynaeve was suddenly in love with Lan. They had like two pages of time together. Id love to see that fleshed out.
(Book 1 spoiler)
